Putting this out there to the masses since nobody at Rivian has been able to figure it out for me.
Just over a month ago, I picked up a used 2022 R1T 600 miles from my house. My plan was to use the RAN to get home, but I brought a NACS adapter just in case I needed to use Superchargers at any point. Good thing I did because at my first RAN charging stop, I was unable to start a session...I tried 3 different chargers at this particular location and all gave me the "unplug and try again" message. I called customer service, who had me perform a reset, but nothing worked so I went to the nearest supercharger. I was able to start a session here but only by starting the session from the Tesla app (so Tesla charged me)...plugging directly and letting Rivian charge me didn't work.
Did this all over again at my next charging stop...tried RAN first which failed, so went to the nearest Supercharger where I was able to charge.
Fast forward 2 weeks and I tried my local RAN to see if I was still having issues and sure enough, got the "Unplug and try again" message. I didn't call customer service or anything this time.
Fast forward again to yesterday and I decided to try the Waypoints location next to the local RAN to see if I could start a session, and sure enough, no problem...started a session and I saw the $25 hold from Rivian go onto the credit card attached to my account. Once i confirmed this, I went to the RAN next to the Waypoints to see if my luck had changed and again, I couldn't start a session at the RAN.
To verify there isn't a Level 3 charging issue on my truck, I stopped at the Electrify America on my way home. I was able to start a charging session there.
So, it doesn't seem to be a problem with my credit card since I am able to charge at a Waypoints. It doesn't seem to be a Level 3 charging issue since I can charge on the Electrify America network as well as Superchargers when starting a session via the Tesla app. I have zero issues on my Level 2 at home or the Chargepoint Level 2 I use at work.
I spent more time on the phone with Rivian customer service yesterday and they've taken down all the details as I've presented above and will get back to me eventually, I assume.
