You know, The glorious Tesla supercharger network allegedly is built as a not-for-profit operation. Perhaps there is some truth to that, or else Tesla is the lowest scammer in the DCFC industry. Either way a win-win.

I guessed they would offer a lower price for those that subscribe to Connect+ but this is good too. Now just need to lower prices to be competitive.

I'm glad Rivian is doing this ...we've already bought into the ecosystem, so give us a little break here. I'm also glad that Rivian is opening their chargers to other cars...the more chargers available for everyone, the better.

And PG&E is far from a charity. For those not from the area, 50¢ is not much higher than what they charge for residential power. Context matters.

Speaking of context, RAN is a much smaller network. It has far fewer dispensers. So per unit operating cost is far higher than Tesla. It shouldn’t shock any thinking person that Rivian moved to increase pricing. Comparing the two networks is as moot as comparing a Model 3 and R1S.

Lastly, if RAN is too expensive to “you” then don’t use it. Other options exist. And for consumers, options are always good (including having RAN). Options promote competition. And competition can influence/correct pricing.

Fair enough.
For me, keeping my hard-earned money in my wallet or virtue signalling, a no-brainer. To hell with the latter, anytime, any day.

They have also been operating it longer, so the build out costs may have already been paid off. Also in theory the Tesla SC uses a lot of mass produced parts from the EVs while the one RAN I have seen the insides of looked more hand built then mass produced.

So the cost structures can be very different between the two.

Perhaps there is some truth to that, or else Tesla is the lowest scammer in the DCFC industry.
I agree that RAN costs more then I really want to pay, and far far far far more then the cost of residential power.

On the other hand hand I like to reserve the term “scammer” for people/companies that do not clearly tell you how much something costs but attempt to obfuscate it. So a company charging $0.68/kWh may be at 3x residential rates, but the one that says “$0.68/kWh” isn’t a scammer it is “merely” expensive. The company that says “$0.28/kWh” but actually charges $0.34/kWh is a scammer (although a better deal then the one with a transparent rate twice as high!).

If you want to use the word “scammer” for anyone with a high rate, go ahead (the dictionary won’t agree with you, but I’m not the dictionary police), but you may end up talking at cross purposes with people that agree “the rent is too damm high”, but think a company advertising it’s high rates isn’t running a scam.

Scam, open scam, hidden scam. Fraud. Potahto, potato.
Make that over 8 times the local utility rate. Oh, yes. Total scam.

You don’t buy many things and must live on a compound. There are a few dictators where you get much of your stuff from and many CEO’s also fit under that description.

I get not liking EM, but let’s not kid ourselves.
