I just happened to check the elevation reading, and it appears to be off by over 1000’! It currently reads as 5,614, whereas the My Altitude app puts me at 6,725.

The lowest recorded elevation is within 8’ of the correct number, which seems like a reasonable margin, and the highest is pretty close, though I’m less certain what that should read (sea level is a lot easier to eyeball…).

Is there any way to calibrate it? I haven’t tried a reset yet, as we’re about to head out for dinner, but I can try that later.

Have you checked that your vehicle wasn't suddenly lifted by an air vehicle capable of VTOL?

My lowest elevation showing on the truck is -1 ft. According to USGS, lowest road ive been on is 10ft.

I've been underwater a couple of times. Not enough satellites I guess.

Getting accurate elevation with data from just a few satellites is inherently problematic due to the shallow angles to derive hypotenuse. Far less accurate than assessing longitude/latitude.. Portable devices that do this best use a barometer as a secondary validation. Does the Rivian use barometric data like this? A $250 bike computer does..

my readings fluctuate. I've driven over the same 7400 foot pass several times and I've seen my readings as much as 1000 feet lower. No real reason for it.

Ok, good to know it’s not just me. I don’t have a big problem with an inaccurate reading, it’s just the first time that I noticed it was pretty wildly off.

There is no altimeter in the car. It uses map data
Interesting. The My Altitude app can also use map data, so I just switched it over, and that actually puts us even higher than either the barometric (~350’) or Rivian (~1,450’) data.

Cros-check with the FO altimeter and standby altimeter. If they aren’t within ~20’ write it up in the logbook. And call your maintenance dept. They may need to clear the pitot/static port! 😆
