Thanks for all your comments. Conclusion: A lot more expensive to repair ICE vehicles, especially non legacy newer ones.

Since its a Rivian, the cost to repair is bazillion dollars!!!

Probably around $25K...

I know it is difficult, but try to look at the brighter side. Accidents happen. If you can walk away from it, then the vehicle did its job.

You have insurance. Let them handle it. Yes Rivians cost a lot, but repair costs are trending down due to more of them being on the road. If it was another vehicles fault, let their insurance handle it. Try not to stress too much.

If it costs $500 or $50,000 to fix, it is the same to you. If the body shop finds more damage, they will file for a supplement with your carrier.

To answer your question, no it will be nearly impossible to estimate the cost based on a photo. There could be damage where we can't see.

If you know it’s “astronomical”, tell us the cost.

Many EVs are the same way. Had a truck sideswipe our Model 3 and fled. It was 25k and the car was out for 5 months. I don't expect the Rivian to be cheaper.

Welcome to modern expensive vehicles in general. It sucks.

At the end of the day, the car did its job and kept you safe. You can always get another one.

View attachment 131661 It’s with a heavy heart that I post this. A Rivian fan here. This vehicle is awesome. Drives great, feels great. Had decided to keep it forever. Then this happened. Look at this photo. It’s a low speed injury. What’s your best guess how much should this cost? I know it’s hard to guess just based on looks, but let me give you some more information. No battery damage, no major frame damage.
Anyone looking to buy a Rivian, please look online and a very quick search will reveal horror stories. I had read about those and I was always very careful. Driving in the slow lane, no crazy acceleration etc etc. And yet this happened.
I assumed you had a figure to share given the title. Instead you ask people to guess. Provide a figure to back up your assertions.

Yes, "caveat emptor" and many don't bother, regardless of any well-meaning advice from anyone. Also, accidents happen, no matter how careful you are. You are not in control of the universe and you will never achieve it. Shit happens. Same remains true of any car at any price. That's why you have insurance.

I‘m going out on a limb and guessing it will cost you your deductible. So, $500. Maybe $1K.
Front end collisions can be a bit of a toss up with insurance companies. Critical details are left out of original post.

Sorry about the accident. Hope everyone is okay.

$51,000 is my guess. What do I win?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem

You know, I first thought "hey man, let's all just get along"

Then I re-read the post. And while I do not currently have my tinfoil hat on my pointy head, something is fishy. Starts with "love it" then goes to "low speed" (image suggests otherwise), then right into "if you're looking at a Rivian think again".

Driving in the slow lane, being careful, "then this happened" which is clearly a rear-ending of another vehicle.

I have questions.

Yes, they're expensive and time consuming to repair. I clipped a concrete pillar at low speed with the passenger rear quarter panel back in early February. Purely cosmetic damage. 59 days and $18k to a body shop got the truck back on the road. Insurance took care of it, but the costs and timeline for repair are staggering.

The large panel that runs along the rear quarters runs up along the back of the cab and along the sides of the sunroof was damaged twice in shipment and had to be reordered. 3rd one came in okay. Parts were $4,447 of the total. I think I could have gotten it back in half the time had Rivian packaged the large panel better.

I’d say 20-30k. Any car at this price point with this amount of features/ sensors is going to cost big dollars to repair. You want all the features, each one comes with a wheelbarrow full of expensive ass parts.
