Weather-dependent is a huge thing. I see snow in your profile picture; When it's cold, the efficiency goes way down. Where I live is a highly moderate climate. When it's 70s and sunny or warmer, that's when I'm getting that efficiency. Fortunately for me, that's around 8 months of the year here.
I’m pretty familiar with EVs: It’s in the mid to high 60s here right now. When it was down in the 30’s the trimax was doing 1.3 mi/kwh in AP and barely grazing 2 in conserve (but I was discounting that as it was prior to the AXM module replacement - so I was hopeful it was down to that). The joys of STL mean it’s either freezing or boiling other than the two months of the year when the seasons changing aka May and November - we just opened the pool at the start of this month.

If you are looking for an R1 and debating Gen 1 used vs Gen 2 I would say that the R1S may have slightly improved suspension but likely worse stereo in Gen 2.
if it’s a later 2023 or 2024 Gen 1 then it already has the upgraded Gen 2 dampers so not much, if any difference between late Gen 1 and Gen 2 suspension.

No for that $ Delta. I'll wait for good colors again and someone else's depreciation.

The unicorn QuadMax would be! Jeez, those straight line numbers. My biggest concern would be potentially losing the rock-solid, zero-issues reliability of my ‘22 Gen1.
My Gen 2 has been a nightmare. 4 months of constant problems.

This is sound logic.

Save your money for the next evolution and enjoy a much better sound system.
This has been my thought/feeling. Technology for EVs is evolving rapidly. I am staying away from the upgrade loop. Looking forward to the 2030 R1S

I am not worried about Driver+/ADAS as I am using Comma which is better than either autonomous driving option Rivian currently has and does stuff that likely Rivian will never do.
Comma is truly incredible, and I agree it does steering better than gen 2 currently does. Even lane changes are smoother.

That said, comma will ALWAYS be inherently limited compared to a built in system, because it is only aware of what's directly in front of the vehicle. It has no cameras on the sides and rear. If you get the additional wiring harness for comma it can at least read the blind spot warning (though this is not implemented on Rivian yet). Which helps, but still doesn't give a complete 360° view of the world.

So what that means, is in it's current state, comma can and WILL change lanes right into another vehicle. In the future when it gains blind spot access it will at least pause for a vehicle in your direct blind spot. But it still can't tell if there's a vehicle too far forward to trigger blind spot warning, but too far back to be in the camera field of view.

If Rivian continues the trajectory of improvement with Gen 2 they've already shown (and it has improved greatly already), it will far surpass comma's capabilities. I realize that's a big if, but they've already shown a very rapid rate of improvement. The precedent has been set

Just drove a Gen 2 at the SC. If I could get my Gen 1 to have the updated sub-frame, updated shocks, better cameras, quieter cabin, non-clunky drivetrain, dedicated chip for ADAS vs Gen 1 sharing a chip causing some lag when vehicle is in motion, then updating wouldn't be worth it.

Things I didn't like: still had similar rattles to my truck, and door handles are noisy and exterior handles are so loud when opening. The new glass roof is just a gimmick...does absolutely nothing for heat coming through. Party trick only. Premium audio is fine now, but still a step below Meridian.

so are you saying updating is worth it?

Find a Gen 1 with a Merdian sound system - nothing else will matter after that once you subscribe to Apple Music to hear Dolby Atmos songs 🔊
95k miles on my launch edition vin 24XX - wouldn't trade it for a new one at all.

Well, some people have better sorted Gen 1s...so...I would say it depends on what you value.
^^This

Unfortunately the question of "is it worth it" is not something anyone else can answer. Entirely dependent on you, your financial position, and what is important to you
