How did we ever survive without MFA?

I guess they just solved the issue when your kids try to steal the keys to your car.

How many people here have actually had their car stolen?

Now how many here have had a phone stolen?

Overreacting much? You don't have to use the feature.
Maybe but I still would like a simply pin system just like Tesla. Not a complicated two factor system that would work great for a desktop computer. Disappointed in this release.

Okay. Some are good with the MFA system Rivian has come up with and it may, indeed, offer a very high level of security, IF it actually gets used. That’s fine. Some, however, have good reasons to find this new system cumbersome and, for one reason or another, unusable. How difficult would it be for Rivian to offer a driver chosen PIN system as a second option?

Sure enough. Went on a long trip today. So used to the great Tesla PIN authentication, so simple, so easy. After getting into my R1S without a key or an idiot keyfob because I use PAAK. Nothing to do but get in the vehicle and get ready to go just to see the idiotic, demented Rivian MFA to check my phone!
Did it three times.

Each time, I was reminded that I had to go find and dig out my phone from my pocket, unlock, launch Rivian app, tap approval to go. Super annoying. What a worthless, misguided implementation this Rivian MFA POS absurdity is having to deal with my phone to make it work. I disabled this MFA idiotic disgrace for good. A HUGE disappointment. No, thanks, Rivian. Get real!

How many people have lost their phone? A few.
Whether one, or two, or three, or 1 billion, what the hell difference does it make? What does it matter?
You are missing the forest for the trees. Anything security in a vehicle that relies on third-party hardware for it to work is a complete disaster.

I have never lost my phone. I have, however, dropped it and destroyed the screen, making it impossible to use. In that situation, I would have been prevented from driving the truck since there would be no way to confirm the drive on the phone. So I will concede that is a valid concern.

But it has only happened to me once in my entire life. Once.

You hate it, obviously. I don't. I like it and I will continue to use it.

I am probably going to buy a second phone and lock it inside the center console for emergencies. It will be password protected, and turned off, except when I really have an emergency - like has only happened once before in my entire life. Once. But I do like the idea of having that backup.

I just called Rivian, they said they’ll trade you your truck for a 2002 Camry with an actual key and zero software updates. Win-win?

🛻 👍🏼
Aw, they kept my trade in this whole time?

It's funny to see this thread blow up with strong opinions. Mine aren't strong, but I don't really get where Rivian is coming from here. How many Rivians have been stolen, ever? Can't Rivian just track the location? Who is a thief going to sell it to, with it reported stolen? What is a thief going to do the first time "Service Vehicle Soon" pops up?

Why are you still using it if you hate it so much and it's 'worthless'? Just turn it off and be done with it.

Not using it anymore, but still may not tire of denouncing this MFA abject stupidity.
I'm 100% with you that this implementation is flawed, and it could be better. A PIN option would be great, and I believe it would offer an acceptable level of security and convince.

But don't hammer the community with your feedback. We've heard it. Hammer Rivian, you know, the ones who can fix it...

This is what has always puzzled me, as well. I always figured stealing a Rivian was a pretty quick way to end up in jail, as I assumed it could be easily tracked down. Maybe that is not the case. But, if I was a car thief, I think I would be looking for another ride.
