For routing I prefer Google maps as it has pretty accurate traffic. For turn by turn instructions... Apple Maps is 100x better. It will tell what lane you need to be in and to tell you what lights to skip.
My favorite thing about Apple Maps is that it will vibrate my watch prompting me to glance at my mounted iPhone to see that I need to prep for a turn. It's even me some pretty horrid navigation though.

I just love those about these parts that get their panties all in a bunch and feel neglected because the latest version of the product gets the newest and greatest love from the manufacturer. Such is and always has been life.

I for one am always excited to see the updates and how they apply to my Gen 1 that is only two years old. In that time, there's been a multitude of updates including many suspension tweaks, Pet Mode, Snow Mode, Apple & XM Music, blind spot turn signal in driver display, tow mode updates, additional battery capacity, and the list that goes on...

Most other manufacturers sell you a vehicle on X date with Y features and that's what ya get.

If you feel you've been abandoned by Rivian as the newest has features your vehicle doesn't (and won't get), there's a simple cure: buy a new Rivian with these new features, buy something else, or zip it and be happy with whatever you get in the way of updates.

Completed the update. Disappointed that there’s still no way to search for POIs by designating “along route“, “near me” or “near destination”. These three options should be available when you’re actively navigating. Garmin has had this since the beginning. When navigating to a destination I only want to search for things along my route like rest areas, charging and restaurants. Would also be nice to know how many miles and how much time a via point adds. As a salesperson who used to travel 60k miles a year, finding rest areas, gas and food along my route was essential. Also, knowing how much tIme/distance a stop would add was very helpful. I could add a stop then calculate if I could hit that sales call before being at an appointment. It’s also much safer to not have to be distracted from the road while weeding through a bunch of places that are not on your route. Hope they add this down the road.

Not quite. One of the significant changes (hence making it a “gen 2”) was the suspension changes, which included the cross linked, hydraulic anti roll system.

As a person that tunes suspension for performance use, I can’t imagine those drive modes being done on the gen 1 hardware.
Gen 1 has this as well. Gen 2 made some revisions to spring rates, damping, bushings, etc enough to require different suspension tuning.

Well OK then…. Just took a quick trip and Google Maps is definitely a massive improvement. I once used Rivian’s NAV for directions to a restaurant and it had a path that went all over the place. The new map is getting the routing correct from the get go.

But the surprise for me is Apple music. After an initially slow start up (as warned by RivianTrackr) Apple Music started working MUCH faster. Normally it takes up 5 to 10 seconds for a new song to load over the ATT connection. This time the new songs were loading at under 5 seconds. So far it hasn’t crashed, but I’ll give it a few weeks.

I still wish Rivian had an option to cache downloaded music for better off line performance. I’m in the mountains every weekend and I’d still like to listen to my tunes without having to use my phone.

Back on NAV. I’m hoping Rivian adopts Google maps ability to report accidents and police speed traps. Waze is better at this but Google Maps does have the functionality. IMO it’s not a huge priority since I can still just have Waze running on my phone for those alerts but it would be nice.

Just one step closer to making CarPlay irrelevant.

So glad to hear Apple Music improvements. It’s been terrible since the last update.

Since the thread is long past "useful"... Isn't it Opus Dei that practices corporal mortification?
Yes, along with Rivian CarPlay whiners, Opus Dei practices self-flagellation. So do Shia and Sufi Muslims and some Hindus.

IMO it’s a coin flip as to who is most delusional.

Haha. Wishful thinking? I’m sure they’ll come up with some way to display Apple Music, similar to what Tesla did. Automakers don’t want to give up all of their UI design control and data to Apple.
