Dropped off my Gen1 Quad for service today and they had a Gen2 Quad non launch edition in Forest green on display. I noticed they removed to the sliding tie-downs and put fixed ones in its place.

They feel solid and the hooks are beefy, and fold flush, but I liked the sliding rail on mine. Not sure how I feel about it. Majority of the time I do use the tie-downs in this position.

I also know some people reported that their dogs would get their paws stuck in the tracks.

I personally think these anchor points are just as useful, but I would like to see a more durable / easier to clean material than carpet in the trunk Ă  la the Dune flooring.

I saw someone report on X that this is only for the Quads, as they said they got a 2026 non-Quad and it had the rails... not sure if it's true though.

My opinion, anchors in the 4 corners seems better than 2 sliding anchors. I was going to purchase 2 more but $65 each seems steep, I would do $65 for a pair but since I’ve used the anchor points twice in 2.5 years so…🤷🏻

Oh that's right, I did get my hands on the extra 2 so I have one per corner.

Anchors are better. The slotted piece reminded me of my Xterra, which to Nissans credit, they actually made some accessories for, like a quick release fork mounted bike rack. Cleaning the track was a bit of a pain, and could catch things with its somewhat sharp edges.

While it doesn't look as cool I think this is probably an improvement.

The Gen 1 tie down groove collects dirt and is hard to clean. And it often needs to be covered to prevent it from either being damaged by cargo or from damaging the cargo.

And I can't think of a single time that I used the tie downs in a way where this would not have worked equally well.

I noticed the same thing when I went to a Rivian store and they had a two Gen 2 Launch edition Quad motors on display.

I ended up having to buy 2 extra tiedowns for my Gen 1, I would welcome this change for customers who want a 4 point tiedown from day 1.

The rep mentioned this was a way to help simply the process and cut cost.

One more observation I forgot to mention. The cargo floor used to be fully framed in either plastic or the metal slider rails. Since that’s carpet now, when pulling up the cargo floor, you feel the friction between floor carpet and sides where the hooks are.

Obviously, very minor, but something I noticed since I know how the G1 floor with rails feel. With this material the floor didn’t just drop into place either like the old ones.

I never understood why they later provided only to tie downs. You can't really tie anything down with two you really need four. And don't recall them providing an accessory net maybe I missed that part?

The middle on the slider rails is perfect for securing a full size spare upright in the back, so I'm really glad I have the rails. I also cover them up with a rubber liner on a daily basis, so the rails don't bother me otherwise. But sounds like I'm in a minority.
