Is there a way to get alternative routes? With the original maps, when you would put an address (before hitting go), you would get a couple of routes.

Now with Google maps, I can't figure out how to get alternative routes. It would be even better if you can get alternative routes while you are already driving.

I tow with my R1s and the nav tries to send me via parkways (trailers are not allowed) so I have to stay within interstates but I can't figure out how to tell it to do it.

Agree - I wish this was an option. I like that when I put an address in my phone's Google maps app, it nearly always shows me a few options...would be nice if the Google navigation did the same.

Interesting you phrased it that way as I've noticed a few times lately where Google only gave me 1 option, when I clearly knew there was at least a 2nd, one.

For example, visiting my daughter at Virginia Tech (Warrenton, VA -> Blacksburg, VA), I prefer to go through Charlottesville, not I-66 => I-81, as it's 16 miles shorter, but only 5 minutes longer...which is debatable given how often I-81 has accidents. But...Google maps (both phone & on my computer) only suggests I-66 => I-81.

Now... I know I can just start driving at it will re-route me, but its curious why it has started doing that.

Using Google Maps for a very long time, my Teslas always give me alternate routes when selecting a destination, if available. Just like my phone or my PC does.

FWIW Tesla started using Google Map data in 2017 and finally offered alternative routes mid 2022.

Rivian should have alternative routes before 2030, which is good news.

I always select my route on the google maps on the phone. then click the share button, share with Rivian and then sends it to the vehicle immediately.

This functionality may have changed with Google Maps, but previously it would only send the destination, not the route.

You are probably correct. A few days ago I selected an alternate route and recall it guided me a little different. I figured maybe Google maps just updated to the original route because traffic changed. But perhaps not.
I have an EV Play unit coming in a couple weeks and all this Rivian nonsense headache will go away and I'll have full Android auto with music and voice to text on the big screen.
