I'm in my garage as I'm reading this, so here you go:

I'm measuring (imperial) 3 ft 9+5/8 in or ~3.8 ft length

Thank you!
So, good news and bad news.

The bad news is - the R1S is different & longer.
The good news - once I do the R1T it will be cheaper because it's smaller.
I can't say if the curve at the front is identical between the two...obviously it's super easy to just shorten the R1S version from the back and call it a day but there is a risk it won't work and the cost of this material (and shipping) is such that I think it will just be better to do it next week when I get that R1T (supposedly on Saturday 8/16).

Also my previous post was meant to say that I want it as soon as you've perfected it. It's worth the wait to have it be perfect. Now to decide if I want to do this, or have a shop do it.

I can probably get a few more measurements and throw this in CAD to see if I can get you the curve. Not sure if it's helpful or better to wait until you have a T to scan. Just let me know. If I lived on the West Coast, I'd come visit 😉

For a sunroof I'd totally DIY it's super easy and if you end up making small mistakes it doesn't matter as much as the windshield. You will still get the protection and likely never see them.

I really prefer to test...if the measurements showed it's identical I'd assume it's the same part #, but now that I know it's not I really prefer to test. It's kind of part of the brand that you know for sure that whatever we sell was tested on the actual vehicle, not just eyeballed :)

Unlike EVbase which sells generics as "custom fit" and they are far from even a usable fit. Then you get gaslighting and a run-around on a refund. So, thanks, I do prefer the perfect fit!

Are those the jokers that resell the generic roof bars for 500% markup?

My aplogies in advance to @twraps if this kind of pollutes your thread, but also I think it helps to know that you take fit seriously. Unlike these people.

I'm not sure, maybe. I recall a thread about something like that. My pissup with them was a windshield sunshade that was supposedly Rivian specific. It was ludicrously small, absolutely zero chance of fit.

Rivian R1T R1S Windshield & Sunroof Protection Film - DIY Pre-Cut / UV + IR Blocking (TWRAPS) 1754841914234-sd

They said a few misleading things and then this:
Could we confirm with you whether your car model is R1T?
Because this Windshield Sunshade is only suitable for R1T.

If your car model is correct,
If we refunded you 85% of the product cost, would you consider keeping it?
That way you don't have to return it.

Or if you are interested in other products of equal value, we can also resend it to you.

To your point, I think it's relevant to acknowledge vendor's who have a history of delivering on expectations. Add to that, @twraps being pretty forthcoming about pricing and how he needs to turn a profit, but also deliver a product that he's proud of. Let's be honest, he could have chosen to sell us a 5ft piece of Saran wrap and none of us would be any the wiser. It's decisions like his that will keep him profitable to years, maybe decades, to come.

As a business owner who is very focused on customer experience, as he is, I totally support this message.

And as one business owner to another, I know it can be hard for non-business owners to understand markup, R&D, overhead, storage, logistics, payroll, warranty, etc. when it comes to how these things are priced.

What's the old joke with the old-timer fixing the machine? $1 for the part, $99 to know which/where/how to repair? Not saying it has to be that skewed, but you figure @twraps is testing a dozen products which has a direct cost of material and time. That's thousands of dollars before he ever gets to selling a product.

@EV Play - Alex is currently going through this startup phase now. Luckily, he has a product with a subscription option so ongoing development costs can be covered, and hardware prototyping can be recouped over time.

Hey guys

Sorry for the late response... I've been doing this today... (for the first time for me...). Some photos below :)
I just wanted to say thank you all for your support!!! As you know we're a small family business, not some big corp, so this kind of support is personal and I hope to never lose this trust! Of course, mistakes will happen. A lot of people think that we have an army of engineers working here and when something goes sideways they're mad. In reality, I alone do 99% of product design, testing, new materials discovery & testing, most of the support, everything administrative, about half of the logistics etc... and I am learning. Historically I am a software engineer/entrepreneur so switching from that to this does have a learning curve. But I always do my best to make things right when we mess something up :)

On a side note... I have the most inappropriate tires for off-roading (22" Range) but boy the Rivian couldn't care less 🤣 That was AMAZING! We didn't take photos from the most extreme places because everyone was in the car (no spotter for those) but it handled everything without breaking a sweat, I can't believe it (again - 22" Range wheels with about 1/3 thread left on them, but I did air down to 36psi).

They loved it indeed! Next up we are going to Yosemite in 10 days and I found an off-road trail there that we will do. The family is hyped :) The kids were so emotional from the off-roading that 10min after we were done and back on the road they fell asleep on the back seats 😂

The manufacturer of the film (this is made in South Korea) says it should last about 2 years. I am going more conservative for now and on the website I list as 1+ years.
If life span is 1-2 years, how can you tell if the film is end of life? Also, how does one remove the film?
