Every time I think things are getting rough with the current state Rivian software, I jump in my wife's 2024 Rav4 and experience that disaster of an infotainment system. It does have Carplay as its only redeeming value ;)

I would like to see them build out the driver profile concept a little bit more like Tesla. If I am a guest driver in any Rivian, let me scan a QR code with the app that lets me bring my profile with me for the rest of that drive... music subscriptions and seat/mirror settings etc.

Dead serious. Tesla wrote the book.

For me, give me the complete, liberating PAAK always. Teslas have a keycard also, which I never have used. Have never used the keycard on my R1S, either, much less that abomination, detestable ICE-age POS key fob.

I myself do not mind at all the digital control on the vents. I think it is great, actually.

I do like my R1S Gen 1 a hell of a lot as is. Would not get rid of it even for an R1S Gen 20. That said, any reasonable person would quickly see that software integration and feature implementations thereof on Rivians is noticeably inferior compared to Tesla's. And that is perfectly fine as well.
Boy, we are miles apart. Tesla changed a bunch of crap to be different not because it's objectively better than

I detest the vents. Single handily the WORST "feature" on the truck. PaaK sucks at best and is dangerous at worst. I exclusively use the fob and would have lemon law'd the truck without it. My wife's Nissan Rogue has a better keyless entry system than this truck. Heck just today I stood there with the fob and waited over a minute for the truck to wake up and let me in. Such an awful bass-akwards system.

I won't own a second gen Rivian because they doubled down on these features and removed physical door handles on the interior. It's more of the same, change for the sake of change with no real value add.

TWraps has a dead pedal extender. Been meaning to order one.

Been tucking my left toe into the crack between the door and the lower trim. Slightly better, but not great.

I wonder if you have a lemon, period.
Travelling today, PAAK and auto lock/unlock proximity are simply flawless, DIVINE. Rivian got it sooo right. PAAK and an EV are two supreme peas in a pod. Would never have bought my R1S had it offered only a detestable, hideous, insidious, atrocious,EV-blasphemous so piece of shit fob!! Do not even know where mine is. Worthless repugnant ICE relic.

Looked at vents in action today. I see what they do. Just awesome. Manual.ICE levers or display easy, flawless manipulation. I'll take display any day, Alex!

Bottom line, Rivian covered all basis. Key fob for all of you ICE-age holdouts, :), PAAK for the rest of us. Amen.

I'm not convinced that I have a good example. That's for certain.

When Rivian service has looked at the truck twice and said both times "Operating as designed", and then I get stuck in the rain because the truck won't unlock and let me in.......Then it's just a crap design. This is with the fob even, so it's not like I'm trying to go through some oddball Android BT stack, and old software. This is THEIR HARDWARE; and it doesn't work. Just this morning I walked out of the garage, had to hit the unlock button twice to get the doors to open. THEN had to hit the unlock button AGAIN to get the truck to recognize there was a valid "key" in the truck. It's the first touchpoint I have with the truck every day, it sucks, and it instantly leaves a poor taste in my mouth about the decision to buy it.

Friend got a new Grand Wagoneer that also has "Vents controlled by screen" She hates them along the same levels I do. It's added cost/complexity for less functionality. I mean, if you're going to automate the vents you need them to do something more than just have presets. "Breeze mode" or something. Otherwise, what's the point of the servos to control them, the software to control the servos, and all the UI BS to make those two things happen. It's a TON of added complexity for ZERO additional benefit. Just poor design.

Only 25payments left and it goes back. Love the brand and think there's a lot of love about the product, but the juice of the brand isn't worth these daily agitations of squeeze.

I also would put a nod to a "no glass roof" option or a moveable sunshade. The Rivian glass doesn't reject infrared heat very well. I put up internal glass roof covers since last summer and I haven't missed it one bit (my head no longer sweats and my AC works much faster).

I didn't say CarPlay because I took it as a given that almost everyone with an iPhone wanted it. I know I really miss it after driving a car that has it, like my ID4, or the rental Buick I just had.
different strokes for different folks I guess because I have another car with CarPlay (Mach-E) and routinely rent cars for work w/ CarPlay and the Rivian UI/UX is MUCH better. CarPlay feels like time traveling to the past.

The one exception is the lack of texting in the Rivian. That’s pretty criminal. But on the other hand I kind of like not getting the texts/Teams messages when driving the Rivian

Wow, we also have a Mach-E, and while Ford’s native UI could use an overhaul, I miss CarPlay and its superior navigation and vast selection of apps every time I drive (and it doesn’t feel dated to me at all—just different).

So yeah, different strokes, I guess 🤣

IMO the Mach-E is pretty much the poster child for why current CarPlay is terrible in EVs. Only the native Nav system has the updated list of chargers/Tesla compatible stalls, only the native Nav system triggers preconditioning, only Apples maps sends navigation info to the driver screen, but only Google Maps has the Places API info. None of CarPlay is integrated with the Native car OS so you jump between entirely different UIs, etc.

It’s pretty well acknowledged to be objectively bad - that’s why Apple is trying to move to CarPlay Advanced which is more like the Fully integrated Google Car OS in polestar/volvo

Such various experiences really is amazing to me. My April 2023 built Gen1 is still stellar, 32k miles in, and the UI and feature set improvement has kept the car feeling fresh and exciting. I love driving it still. If there were small things (or large) I could improve, it would (obviously) be the terrible absence of text to screen and voice, and vice versa (which really ought to have cost someone their job by now); the lack of additional map applications (Waze in particular); the potato cameras (updated in Gen2 at least); and the generally poorly designed seats, both in terms of comfort and the clumsy second-row folding process (neither of which were improved on Gen2, so no FOMO on that account, at least). But honestly the only thing that was on my "really want" list from the start that hasn't been addressed through subsequent updates is the texting situation.
