But you CAN buy the tire service kit with your points, then have them deduct that cost from the spare tire shop cost.

This might be a good solution for me and I have 500 reward points unused, but I am not following along. Are you saying that the compact spare ($755) cannot use points but the jack kit ($200) can use points and they will deduct from price of the compact spare to make it $555?

Yup, that's what I did (although the cost for the compact spare was only $421 with tax.) And since there was a mobile tech in my area, they delivered it and replaced my 12 V battery at the same time.

I've never understood why an $85K vehicle comes with no spare tire, and I knew I needed to have something for an emergency. My original plan was to use my Rivian store credits toward a spare, but I was told that "installing" a spare tire required a service appointment. I was also told that the space saver spare is only for the R1S. I was able to use some of my Rivian credits toward the spare tire service kit (jack, hold down bolt, styrofoam insert), so I got that a while back.

Even without the service kit, a full size spare was going to set me back ~ $1,400. However, the fine folks at the Richmond, VA service center let me know that they tried a space saver spare in the R1T, and they couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't work!

So, for a little over $400, I now have a spare tire (and enough extra room in that big tire compartment to stow my hitch when I'm not using it!).

Curious.. where did you find a space saver spare for 400 or did you use your credits to get the price knock down. I searched on Rivian it is 755

I purchased the tire accessory kit (with the tie down bolt) with my points before I bought the spare. Then I asked them to price just the space saver spare without the kit. It was $400 plus tax.

Also how does software handle tires of such different sizes?
Im debating whether or not to get full size or compact or risk keeping just the repair kit.

As far as the tire size, this is not an old style space saver "donut" spare. It is what I call an "origami" spare - the sidewalls are folded inward so that it is small, but when you inflate it (yes, you have to inflate it!), it pops out to the size of the other tires. I had the exact same thing in my 2016 VW Touareg, and it worked great! When you deflate it, the sidewalls fold back in to their original compact shape.

R1S do not have provisions to carry a full size spare. The space saver is intended for the R1S, which come with factory options ranging 275/50R20~275/65R20 (same range of options as the R1T). The space saver is designed to inflate-to-size and cover that entire range of factory tire options. Used as a emergency spare that it is—slow and short distances (i.e. no more than 50 mph for 50 miles, general rule of thumb for emergency spares)—it's fine to use. Beyond that intended use, you''d probably be operating outside of the legal fine print.

When I had to use one with my VW, it was like magic watching it inflate up to full size!

How did you get the compact spare? they won't sell me one.

I asked to speak to a service manager, and told him that I wanted one. I asked if there was any reason why it wouldn't work. He said no, they just usually sell these for the R1S.
They wouldn't "install" it though! The mobile service tech just gave me the wheel and said I would have to install it myself (which was just dropping it in the hole and anchoring with the mounting kit (which I purchased separately).
No problem!
