Yesterday I decided to try to repair my cap. Why? Even if it might be free to replace at the SC? It seemed like a fun challenge, a learning opportunity, and also Rivian service always includes some friction and annoyances. I made some videos and will post them, I think my solution will be reliable. It uses VHB tape to resist removal in the direction where the tape is the strongest. Previous that direction was the LEAST supported by the OEM tabs. Meaning the pull direction when you drag something out of the bed. The adhesives should be fully cured now so the install happens shortly.

FWIW, trim was replaced at the Burbank SC in under an hour. $240.07 total.

So they didn't warranty it? Did you ask? Was that discussed at all?
I didn't bring it up since there is 2in hole in my tailgate, about 4in from the lid. I forgot to ask how much that repair would be LOL.

FWIW, I didn't start having issues with the lid until 6 weeks after so perhaps it could have been a warranty issue.

Glad to know these are less than $200 new. The tire monkeys at America's Tire drug my spare tire across that piece and popped out one of the brackets. Then when I tried to put it back in, I managed to break it. I tried some double-sided tape and that didn't stick down very well. This is a miss on Rivian's part to have such a flimsy part in this location.

Maybe the next time I'm in the SC, I'll have them replace it.
They rip off when dragging anything out of the bed. Just awful design. Service center supposedly replaced mine. Hopefully the new piece is better.

The tailgate piece is not designed smartly. I'm on my second one. Yes, this one is "rubberized" but that actually makes it worse for sliding heavy things down your tailgate. It catches on anything I off load. Rivian was kind enough though to send me the replacement in the mail for self install, I appreciated that.

Had a couple of requests now for Armor PPF to cover it. There's a few on eBay, and I don't really care about the condition or clips, but does anyone know if the actual design/shape changed between Gen1 and Gen2? Most listed on eBay are stated as 2022-2024 compatible.
