I have been asking for one minor update for years. I have always wanted the vehicle odometer to be shown on the driver screen along with the trip odometers which would be resettable from one of the steering wheel buttons. This has always seemed like a relatively simple thing to accomplish. They can't seem to get this done, but they can efficiently add a bunch meaningless crap.

I have wondered for years if the folks doing these updates have ever driven one of these vehicles.

IMO the Mach-E is pretty much the poster child for why current CarPlay is terrible in EVs. Only the native Nav system has the updated list of chargers/Tesla compatible stalls, only the native Nav system triggers preconditioning, only Apples maps sends navigation info to the driver screen, but only Google Maps has the Places API info. None of CarPlay is integrated with the Native car OS so you jump between entirely different UIs, etc.

It’s pretty well acknowledged to be objectively bad - that’s why Apple is trying to move to CarPlay Advanced which is more like the Fully integrated Google Car OS in polestar/volvo
As someone who’s owned 4 EVs, three with CarPlay, respectfully disagree, and I don’t think it’s “pretty well acknowledged.” Yes, it sucks that you can’t get the best mapping UI and the best places data and the preconditioning features in one place. But the Mach-E is one of the only EVs where CarPlay Maps can automatically route based on the vehicle’s actual charge level, and it’s one of only a couple where navigation is also displayed on the driver screen. It’s easy to switch between the native UI and CP/AA, and the car’s HVAC controls are always displayed when you’re in CP/AA, so you don’t need to switch as often. If anything, the Mach-E has one of the best current CarPlay/Android Auto implementations.

To bring this back to Rivian 🤣 the fact that so many people want CarPlay despite the limitations we’re talking about says a lot about the limitations of the built-in system. Heck, for me it’s not about CarPlay specifically: I’d gladly pass on CP/AA itself if the built-in system was easier to use, was easier to read, and had a way for me to run all the apps that improve the driving experience in cars with CP/AA.

yeah we are just going to have to agree to disagree. The Mach-E UI/UX is a hacked together mess. Ford has already announced they are leaving it behind and going to Android Automotive (same as Polestar/Volvo).

Rivian does almost everything you just listed and (exception being non-native apps) I’ve never had a problem with reading text so don’t know what to tell you.

It's a setting on your phone. This Bluetooth Wikipedia article lists things (just jump to the AVRCP section): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bluetooth_profiles?wprov=sfla1

On most Android phones, you can enable developer settings and change the version of that protocol, since it defaults to a particular version for compatibility. Rivians accept at least version 1.6

I'm not sure if its a thing that can be changed on iPhones, if that's something you use.
I dropped my version down to 1.5 on android and everything on both my MachE and R1S work fantastic now (pixel 9).

Here's one I noticed today:

If my climate control is off, and I tap the "defrost" button, I want it to go back to "off" if I stop defrost mode. Right now, tapping defrost turns up the climate control to max, and tapping defrost to turn it off leaves the climate on max.

Vehicle says XM radio functions from cellular. My wish would be to get signal direct from the satellite as I pass through plenty of areas with clear skies and no cellular.

I took my R1T to the local charging center this morning. Being retired, I tend to gather statistics about how far the truck physically got since the last charge. While resetting the trip odometer, it just struck me that that truck status screen has just a LOT of dead space on it. In some EV's they have a graphic to show you how much charge is left in a battery pack. Instead of just a white block indicating where the batter sits, how about making it a battery capacity indicator? Give us a graphic of how much power is left in the pack. Just a thought?

Rivian R1T R1S What is your "minor wish?" IMG20250820062103

The tile on the navigation that displays the ETA to the next stop, remaining battery SOC and miles... I'd love it if it also always displayed the same info for the final destination.. it's just a toggle to get that info but ....

Another one of our other cars has solar windshield glass for heat rejection (white Lexus RX450h with panoramic roof). I notice that it stays a bit cooler than the white R1S when sitting out in the sun at work. I would imagine if the R1S had it, it would be cooler a well.

The ability to play music I own without having to go through these damn streaming services.

The current implementation of the bluetooth player sucks donkey balls.
Yes! A simple USB audio option would be nice so that I could plug in any device/audio player and have it play over the Rivian system. My 2014 f150 could do that and I preferred it to CarPlay in my buddy’s 2015 f150 and it was of course far superior to Bluetooth. Secondary if they included a player app that could play files on an external drive plugged to the usb that would be good too as long as it supported lossless formats. It seems like both of these options could be easy software updates.

I'm not sure if wired audio is aligned with your screen name, but I feel your pain. Bluetooth technology, was developed in the early 90's to connect your mouse to your PC 3 feet away. It might not be the best option for something like Dolby Atmos, which by design should support up to 128 channels of high resolution audio. There are USB-C ports all over the interior, it would be nice if they could recognize connected audio devices for playback.

LOL I get more crap about that user name than I ever would have imagined. It was born out of frustration with the ICE vehicle I had when I decided to pre-order the Rivian. It was a huge step for me to go electric, and I Do Not want to go back! Not for my daily driver that is.

As to “wired audio” I don’t at all feel like usb audio is a step back. Asking for an analog AUX in port would be a step backwards. USB audio would be about the only way I can think of to get full resolution digital music into our “high end” audio system with out using a streaming service. For an adventure vehicle that is supposed to go places away from civilization I would think having an option for a source that was not internet or radio would be a good option. Bluetooth is terrible. Even if they implemented all the latest high resolution Bluetooth codecs out there now, most devices don’t support them. Just about every device supports USB audio.
