Just for clarity, did you get a retrofit PTC? If so, is it the wide or narrow slat version?
My R1T (G1) had a nonfunctional (disabled) PTC at delivery. After waiting for over a year, they installed the "updated" PTC (V1.5?) parts, which worked for about 8 months. It's been 7 or 8 months, now, since it failed. The last communication from the SC is that parts are not available, and they did not know whether parts would ever be available. I don't know when or if Rivian will install the new (V2) PTC, but I have only had a working PTC for about 8 out 29 or 30 months. I don't find that acceptable, but apparently Rivian does. If they ever do replace it with the new version, there will be little or no time left under the warranty, so they won't have to worry about standing behind the new version.

Have you considered deleting the PTC altogether and just going with one of the aftermarket options. Frustrating of course given the cost of the vehicle but I do wonder about longevity of even the thin slat version. Who knows how well and long these will work?

@zymolysis maybe I should send Rivian a thank you note for deleting my PTC from my order for me before fulfilling it - 2023 Quad R1T. I wasn’t happy about that at the time and is something I very much want. I picked up the RMaxx Soft Tonneau Roll-up earlier this year, for now.

Honestly, I would if I were you. If the roll-up you've got works for you, stick with it. Or use your experience with it to inform what you'd like your next one to be, and then research what's available. Maybe the new V2 will be the ultimate powered tonneau that fits in the R1T (without taking up bed space), but Rivian's track record on designing, producing, and standing behind the PTC hasn't been good.
When I bought my truck there weren't many options - I think there was a folding tonneau that was intended for a Ford Maverick which was said to work on the Rivian bed. But there were no truck caps. However, there are options now. And compared to what Rivian will charge for either the manual or the PTC, I would look elsewhere, if I was purchasing now. One of the few reasons to buy it with the new truck was so that it would have the 60,000 mile warranty. For me that's nearly gone, and it hasn't helped much. It raised the initial cost, so I paid more to the state, and I've been paying finance charges on a feature that I mostly haven't been able to use. And I've been in limbo for month after month, waiting for vaporware, instead of solutions that are actually available.

Still on the calendar.
Surprise! I got the pre-service estimate and they’re only doing a calibration. When I spoke to the advisor before coming in for the visit this Monday, they told me that they’re still waiting on parts to do full replacements so if the calibration doesn’t work, I’ll have to come back again at the future time for a replacement. They are doing a service action to replace the clips on the axles, probably to prevent clicking noises which I have not reported as an issue and they’re going to address the dashboard rattle that has gotten pretty intense by replacing a number of parts under the dashboard so it’s not gonna be a total waste of time.

Keep the faith everyone... Parts are still in very short supply but they are starting to slowly roll out (pun intended). Just picked my truck up with the updated version.
This is good to hear! What are your first impressions? Does it feel sturdier than the original?

Is this a Gen 1 or 2 truck? I have an appointment for my 3rd tonneau replacement on the 17th, but I’ve told them I’ll only go through the trouble if it’s a V2. They have been very vague about this… some at the SC have said it definitely will be, others haven’t confirmed nor denied 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't know what your mean by sturdier. Feels reliable, it's very quiet and feels solid. The slats are surprisingly stiff, I was expecting something I'd be afraid to put too much weight on or bump but they aren't fragile (I wouldn't stand on them but they feel like they could probably support my weight, maybe....)

Gen 1. I won't go into details, but there was a series of fortunate events (yes, I meant fortunate, I'm lucky to have this cover!) that led me to being chosen to get this, I was told it's still in pretty short supply at the moment. It was the first my service center had done and I got the impression they don't expect to get another for a while.

But wanted to share to at least show they are in the wild and retrofit on Gen 1 is possible, but it's still s00n for most everybody at this point. I'm not even sure they even intend to upgrade everybody with the gen 1.5 version who has issues or to limit it in some way. I have no special knowledge here.

Many mistakenly associate the inherent hollow resonance with weakness. When it’s just how cut and bent aluminum sheets sound. Has nothing to do with structural strength.
