Yesterday it was -35 Celsius (Or -31 F for you crazy Americans). I drove my Model Y 296kms on the highway. I left at 100% fully preconditioned, arrived at the midway charging spot with 10% battery left after only driving 140kms. Had to charge for 1hr to have enough juice to complete the trip. Yeah, we need the Max pack.
Oh, I knew where the calculus was coming from. It's just interesting seeing it in action. :)

I have made a similar point to Rivian about their RAN map. They have a spot in Fargo, and on in Sioux falls. That's 244 miles with a speed limit of 80 headed due south. Things I have trouble seeing you be able to do with the large pack Rivian:
1. drive 80+ for 244 miles non-stop with a typical SD/ND wind in the summer.
2. Driving somewhat slower in the winter when it's 15 degrees, wind is blowing north/south, and the road sucks for 244 miles. Really need to have chargers every ~100 miles.

yep. I’ve done a similar distance many times with a 100kwh model S. this has informed my big battery choice.

I’m counting on the big truck stop/gas station chains adding chargers.

, petro-canada has put fast chargers the entire length of the trans canada. co op is adding chargers in the west, Canadian tire is putting them all over, etc

I had forgotten about the not a tire shop Canadian tire.
They’re still the biggest tire retailer in canada somehow. I’ll buy loose tires there, but won’t ever, ever let them touch a car.

R1S Adventure Large Pack
Ordered November 2020
Estimated delivery first half of 2023

Right beside US customers who ordered a full year after me. I get the feeling Canadian operations are not in great shape...

I do wonder how advanced they are at developing the Max Pack. Perhaps the 2023 delivery is also about actually delivering the promised specs.

Where is this FUD coming from? The max pack is just…longer. 30% more modules. There are pictures.

Nowhere else than me wondering. I’ve seen the photos but it still needs to deliver the 400+ miles. Am just saying this could be one of the reasons they’re pushing it out. Need more time to deliver what was promised. That and perhaps the fact the extra modules in that pack will mean less véhicules that be delivered.

The main driver appears to be the fact that with the same number of battery cells, they can make 10 “large” packs vs 7 max packs. Since max pack is a minority of orders, it makes sense to do the more popular size first.

I ordered the R1T Max Pack in Jun 2020, and I received the email for the first half of 2023, today I got into the configurator and I noticed that I was able to convert my R1T to an R1S without loosing my place in line (so they say)
Since all the R1S will likely be delivered in 2022, maybe I can get it earlier.

In fact, I am not fully decided on the model I like the most, definitely I would like the 400+miles, but 300+ is still on my range.

You’ve always been able to switch between R1T and R1S without penalty.

will be interesting to see if you get a truck in 2022.

Thanks but no thanks first time poster.

Also, I have had no contact from Rivian on any updated time frames. May 2019 pre-order and they did tell me if I switch from Max to Large pack that I should receive the truck sometime in 2022. The configurator hasn't updated to reflect the old pricing for me yet.

I do see some deliveries in the US for people that pre-ordered after my pre-order date but that was expected. Sucks however, lol.

Anyways, hoping no delays for us Canadians. It would suck if they push our deliveries to 2023 given some made changes with hopes of getting the truck this year.

It seems like they are triaging configurator price updates to show for people with deliveries happening right away.

I still think they’ll hit the july-sept targets for canada.

Easy for me to sy though, im waiting for a max pack R1T

Did they say they were targeting July-Sep deliveries for Canada? I don’t recall seeing it but that sounds promising. I was thinking more like December 2022.
