My Gen2 R1T PAAK works all the time and always has. Could care less about adding it to my wallet

Really curious to see if CarKey even helps this. Overall my R1S doesn’t struggle too much with unlocking and proximity
It should help a great deal because, as I understand it, they are transitioning from Bluetooth to UWB. UWB allows the car to judge the distance from it much more accurately. One of the biggest reasons for the unlock command delay is that it is difficult for the vehicle to tell the difference between a phone 10 feet away and 2 feet away. In the beginning, early Gen 1, Rivian had the receivers tuned to pick up earlier, but then people were complaining about their car in the driveway getting unlocked when they were just walking around inside the house.

So Rivian turned the sensitivity down, and Rivian has been straddling the line between too sensitive and not sensitive enough ever since. UWB allows the car to get a much more accurate reading of distance, therefore it should allow for maximum sensitivity without the unwanted unlocking.

They need to make the proximity lock much closer. Like 10-15 feet away.

It's a bit unsettling walking away from the car, being out of view, and still not hear the locking chirp.

The transition between tech makes sense to me. There must be a better way. My 2025 G2 requires me to have my iPhone screen on and looking at me before unlocking in my driveway. When not in my driveway it locks and unlocks constantly if im any closer than 15 feet. It’s ridiculous really. My 2018 model 3 exhibited none of these issues.

With my Gen 1 R1T, I've been in the polar opposite situations...

Previous phone was a Pixel 6, and it had a solid plastic case on it. Unlock sensitivity was not the best - it usually was okay, but about once or twice a week I would have to pop my phone out of my pocket to unlock. Locking was never a problem though. Yay!

I just upgraded to a Pixel 9a, and the case I have is a softer one (plastic-y rubber), and now unlock is NEVER a problem, but I have to be so much further away for it to lock. I can be almost inside the grocery store and the truck still will not have locked even when parked as far away as possible. My truck now unlocks (or never locks at all) at home, and my garage is detached from the house, and is minimum 20 feet away from the rest of the house.

Just want to illustrate that the combo of both phone model and the kind of case can be a huge factor.

Huh, lately I've been struggling with the truck preferring my wife's phone (Pixel 9) instead of mine (iPhone 16) even if she is in the house and I am opening the driver's door: the car chooses her profile and makes it really hard to go in :( I was looking for default profile and default phone to connect to, if more than one is present but can't find such setting.

It just means they found something in QA. Which to me is a good thing.

I'd much rather have features delayed a few months done correctly than continuous buggy updates.

Recently Apple Music and GoogleCast (or whatever it's called) come to mind. I like having both, but the apps are buggy and don't work great. My success rate on casting from my phone to the truck is maybe 20%.

I'd much rather have either of those updates delayed by a quarter and done right the first time. Very few things are as annoying as buggy software.

They should just cancel it. No-one uses Apple watches anyway.

Having now owned a Silverado EV, I can say without question the unlocking / locking behavior of both of my Rivians was really irritating. It's only exacerbated by the fact that the handles of the doors are always deployed when unlocked. If I choose to leave a Rivian unlocked in my garage, a door handle harpooning is guaranteed.

This can't come soon enough. It's a mystery why it's taken so long.

Apple's sales numbers would indicate differently.
Sales doesn't mean they get used. How many have you bought vs how many are you wearing right now?
