CONFIRMED TODAY ON EARNINGS CALL:

- First R2 deliveries on track for first half 2026

- First R2 trim will be Dual Motor AWD

- Launch Edition (which will be Dual Motor AWD) will be produced and delivered first

- Launch Edition won't be the most-expensive trim level

According to RJ the R2 Launch Edition is "well-appointed, but it's not intended to be our most expensive version. It is intended to be a very nicely set-up vehicle, which we think will make the most people the most happy."

- Rivian will host an R2 event in early 2026 where outline pricing, powertrains, trims, configurations, and available options will be revealed

Also on today's Q3 2025 earnings call, RJ said

"I've been driving an R2 for a while now, and it is incredible. From performance perspective, it delivers on the adventurous spirit customers expect from Rivian while also being a great daily driver that will fit so many different use cases for our customers."

I think this is smart. Even if Tri will have the highest margin I think they need volume more than anything and dual motor will probably be their highest volume seller.

So is the dual their top trim or would that be a tri?

This is perfect. My wife doesn’t need a Tri-Motor R2 and I was really hoping a well equipped dual would be available as a launch edition.
Same position here

This actually is sort of the same case as Gen 1 Launch Editions, which were all Quad Large - with the highest trim supposed to have been a Quad Max pack that never came to fruition.

The exception is the R1 Gen 2 Quad Launch Edition which is king of the hill for now.

More disappointed they won't bring out configurations and pricing until 2026.
They made that mistake with the R1 and ended up with pricegate - increasing the price on reservation holders, and then rolling back the decision because people were canceling. I think it’s the right call to wait on pricing until they are much closer to actual production and deliveries when they are certain of their costs.

Same for us, we decided whatever comes out is what we will get but this is the configuration we were hoping for.

Based on how RJ's described the Launch Edition, I'm guessing a ~$57k price. That'd be about what the Model Y Performance is, so basically it lets the consumer decide which they value more...adventure or performance. I think it'll be a mistake if the Launch Edition starts above $60k.
