Oh that's a bummer. Thanks for reminding me to update the thread here, I do appreciate that.

Something to consider - many current Comma 3X owners purchased or are planning to purchase the Comma 4 and are/will be looking to sell their used 3X. It's like buying a used newer car, they eat the depreciation that way :) .
Yup, mine will be going up for sale as soon as I get the 4.

I don’t have many places, that I normally travel, that have mapped roads for Driver+. Therefore, I have very little experience using ADAS. I do use ACC and enjoy that, however. There is a section of divided highway not too far from where I live that is mapped. I‘ve driven it a couple of times lately to see how Drivers+ worked. As far as I can tell, it pretty much sucks and was downright frustrating to use. I’d just as soon drive that same section of highway without it. Any bend in the highway is a little herky, jerky - not confidence inspiring. Forget lane changing. That was a mess.

I’m intrigued by Comma 4 and trying to learn all I can about it and its capabilities. I don’t want to spend well over $1000 on something I really won’t benefit from or enjoy. I can see the potential for being able to use it on the many unmapped roads in my area and on longer road trips. But, damn, if it is not light years better than Drivers+, I am having my doubts. Like Jules, in the diner scene from Pulp Fiction, “I’m tryin’ real hard” to justify this Comma 4 😂

Simply put, it is unequivocally light years better than Driver+.

Is there anything specifically that you're concerned about or curious about how it works?

My 3x just shit the bed a few weeks ago and I have been relegated to Driver+ again. 99% of the time it sucks. But I will say, there are very specific circumstances where I feel Driver+ outperforms Open/Sunnypilot. If, and only if, ALL of the following a TRUE:
- The weather is perfect
- The sun is at the right angle so as to not cause a glare
- The road is mapped
- Lane lines are fresh and clearly visible
- The road is relatively straight
- There aren't back-to-back turns, especially in opposite directions
- CSA doesn't get engaged
Then I feel Driver+ does a better job keeping the vehicle centered in the lane. But that's the extent if it.

Quoting and answering both, these are great posts. My first experience with any form of self-driving was with Tesla Autopilot on gen 3 hardware, and it was excellent. I "drove" with AP nearly 100%. I would turn it on as soon as I turned off our small unmarked street and run it nearly full time.

Driver+ was so ridiculously bad in comparison. In fact I've made numerous posts about the choice between Rivian and Tesla being ONLY because we need a truck. Otherwise, Tesla 100%.

The Comma is better than the Tesla in nearly every way. I've driven quite a few cars with some form of centering now, and the Comma is best overall. The comment above about centering is valid, sometimes the Comma is not very central. But never dangerous or drunk. Driver+ is often drunk (meandering) which to me is an absolutely no. Comma may hug a line, but MADS means you can nudge it back easily.

Get it.

Funny story. During a service visit I was given a rental Toyota. Its lane centering is comically terrible. Also, this is a well known issue with Toyota, they have 147 different computers doing different jobs. So this is how the lane centering garbage was purposely driving me directly out of the lane while the lane safety computer was blaring "DEPARTURE ALARM" at the same time but one can't talk to the other.

I’m encouraged by your assessment that Comma 4 is light years ahead of Drivers+.

What am I concerned about? I’m concerned about everything. As Jared noted, Driver+ works great on relatively straight, mapped roads. And, as far as I can tell, that is about it. I fully expect to have to pay attention, but the benefit stops when I have to constantly wonder what it’s going to do in a turn or I have to wrestle with it to make a lane change or I constantly have to touch the wheel. When I’m in control (no ADAS), I know how the car is going to react and it is all automatic. I guess the bottom line is, one needs to trust the vehicle to do the right thing, in a nice SMOOTH manner - no ping ponging in the lane, accurately initiating and following the contours of a turn, etc. If there isn’t that trust, then, for me, the benefit of ADAS is outweighed by the need to constantly baby sit it. I honestly can‘t imagine driving in heavy traffic with Drivers+ 😲

Anyway, I’m not giving up on the idea of Comma 4. However, I am, based on my limited experience with ADAS, having a hard time wrapping my mind around it, especially when it will cost about $1500 to realize its full benefit.

Really the only thing I can suggest is to try it. Comma has a VERY generous 30-day no questions asked return policy. I'd say try it out for 2-3 weeks and if you don't like it and find you still have trust issues, return it for a full refund.

Comma works in parking lots and off-road. At this time I don't think anyone can assuage your fears more than I, an unaffiliated end user, saying that it blows away ever other such system.

Okay. I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a Comma 4 for my ‘23 R1T. My problem is, I need to have a much better idea of how long it will take to receive it. The Comma website support page indicates that most orders are received within 5-10 days. When I went to place an order it indicates “1-12 weeks”. Due to my schedule, 1-12 weeks really doesn’t work. Unfortunately, I’m not in a position to just wait around for an indefinite period of time to take delivery. A related concern is, I have searched their website and not found any way to connect with Comma - no phone #, no email, nothing. This is a little concerning.

If anybody has a way to connect with Comma or has any current/accurate info on delivery schedules, I’d appreciate it. Otherwise, it’s going to be pretty much a pass for me, at least for now.

It definitely won't be 12 weeks.

They just started this week working through the tremendous backlog of orders after the Comma 4 announcement. I'd estimate it'll probably be sometime mid-January when they get through that backlog and back to a normal fulfillment timeline.

Sorry to be slow, but I needed to spend some time trying to figure this out. I think I see the problem. I was charged via Paypal, and got the shipping refund, but I don't have any emails from Comma with an order number, and my order doesn't exist if I log into the Comma Shop system. Only my Comma 3 order shows up. I suppose I need to get in touch with customer service? The order must exist *somewhere* to be able to get the refund.

Yeah, that's weird - you definitely should have gotten an email from Comma with an order number.
