Ignoring Tesla, only three models sold more in Q4 2025 than the R1S. That is pretty great for a start-up company, I think. It indicates they have created a product with real value.

That's my positive take considering how poor the BEV market has become. A breakthrough like real battery improvements (not just endless promises) are needed. All the early adopters have adopted, I think.

Especially considering that with any sort of options, you're looking at a purchase price that's nearly double the average new car.

They're going to make it with R2...I really believe they are. They have to improve service locations/speed and keep making the software better but they'll make it.

I mean...even setting aside all the political stuff that probably impacted its sales somewhat, who in their right mind actually thought such an expensive and unconventional vehicle was going to be a big seller? It was always going to be a niche product, anyone at Tesla who thought otherwise was deluding themselves.

oh yeah for sure. And if it was cheaper I actually contemplated buying it after my first Rivian. I only cancelled my reservation last year.

if used ones got down to the $30k range id own one. I want a truck that I don’t care about the paint or scratches. The ugliness of it and no paint is perfect for me haha

I'd guess close to 100% had reservations but wanted to keep their jobs.

At the originally listed price of $39K they would have sold a decent amount IMO, but when that changed to $61K actual price... no sale.

I think Rivian has a long way to go before it has the brand awareness Tesla has. It isn't just about the actual product. If people don't even know Rivian exists, how will they know the R2 exists?

Most of us in this forum are probably car/truck people. We notice new models, and we are excited by new technology. Much of the buying public could care less about what we care about. Tesla has broken through to them, and you would have to be living under a rock to not know what a Tesla is.

To beat the Model Y, Rivian needs to match Telsa's level of brand awareness, IMO.

One thing that has given Tesla a big brand awareness boost is FSD. Even non car people know a Tesla can drive itself. It seems like that's all people want to talk about. While I understand why some think Rivian is making a mistake to follow Tesla down the FSD path, I think that is the only way they can catch the MY in sales volume.

UHF/FSD is what people want now. And that demand will only grow. Holy crap can you imagine how great it would be to send your R2 to the school to wait in car line to pick up your kids, so you don't have to? (A good parent will probably still want to do the pickup, but what if you can't that day?)

Self-driving is the future whether people like it or not. And if Rivian can catch up to FSD, look out. The clock is ticking, though, so they better do it soon. Like this year.
