I got the below text from Rivian yesterday. A bit odd to me since I have charged to 100% 5-7 times since installing 2025.46.0 a month ago (seems like that should have been enough to calibrate?), but so it goes. Anyone else get this?

LFP experience has been a nightmare. Never made the advertised range, even in ideal conditions. Cannot be trusted for road trips on the best of days. Now that we’re deep into winter it’s really been showing its ugly side. 30 miles around town yesterday at 20 degrees outside. Lost 40% capacity. Seriously regretting picking up the LFP.

Our R1S LFP experience has generally been good, though winter range (and L3 charge speed) has been worse than our experience with the 2021 Model Y. Still trying to determine how much worse, but on a really cold day we are getting ~1.5 miles/kWh doing 75-80.

Have only had to L3 charge once in the cold, and despite preconditioning we were getting about 60 kW from the Tesla Supercharger we used. Did a summer road trip last year using Tesla Supercharger network and got speeds (225 kW peak) that were comparable to our past Model Y experience (though occasionally limited by charge cable temperature de-rate, and learned that charging speeds improve when keeping HVAC off in warmer temps).

Occasionally wish I had gone with the Dual Max, but I couldn’t (and still really can’t) justify the extra $25K.

I have noticed that our battery capacity since cold weather arrived has been in the 87 kWh range (~240 miles, down from as expected ~92.5 kWh (259 miles) in warmer temps) when charged to 100%, though I have read that usable capacity declines with the NMC packs in the cold as well. Curious about whether this will improve with the calibration that Rivian wants me to complete.

Yes - a couple of us have discussed over on Reddit.

High level, I received the initial text back in November for my 2026 R1T. I have been charging to 100% 1-2 times a week, then driving to ~30% on average, prior to the next charge.

Based on the latest text, I guess I’ll try charging to 100% multiple times a week to see if that can resolve the calibration issue. All in all, I wish Rivian would provide some more insight/details for us LFP owners.

Interesting - thanks. This is the first text I have received, though I did get the email below on 11/24/2025. Perhaps I did not successfully hit the “as frequently as possible” threshold that was requested in the email.

We also have a Gen1 large. Much less range impact due to cold and the range estimates are reliable, consistent. No hesitation driving it down below 20%.

What efficiency (miles/kWh) are you experiencing in the cold? Any sense for battery capacity in cold vs. stated capacity?

Gen1 winter average is right around 2.0 on winter tires. Gets about 2.2 in summer on AS tires. The LFP is a big ?.

I am probably getting ~2.0 overall this winter. Not on the highway going 75-80 when it is 6 degrees outside, though. That is more like 1.5. I am running the OEM, 20” all seasons that came standard on the 2025 DS.

I've never gotten that notification before. The Rivian app automatically sets my R1S to 100% once a week, I normally leave it at 70% on the daily. This is fine and all. But my only grippe is whenever you plan to not drive the car the next day or go out on vaca for a fews days and leave it plugged in, it sometimes charges it to 100% automatically which happened to me on a few occasions, this is not good leaving the charge level so high for a long period of time.

I’ve always hated this. At least let there be an option for those of us that care to turn off the auto 100% charges and manage it ourselves when we know we can drive the car immediately after charging.

At the very least, I’d like to see a notification that the car has charged to 100%. There have been weekends where the car isn’t used and it just decided to charge 100 on Friday night. Don’t realize until Monday that’s its been sitting there fully charged AND getting repeatedly topped off for days.

Mine usually gives me an alert when it changes the max charge to 100%.

I also got the text yesterday. I charged it to 100% probably a half dozen times since the text received in November.

Unlike some on this thread, I've had no complaints with the LFP battery at all. I'm very pleased with the range I've gotten when road-tripping my R1S and I even opted for the included 20" wheels that are supposed to get less range. Before we were alerted about the BMS calibration issue, I even did a roadtrip where I arrived at my destination with 3% -- didn't sweat it a bit. Admittedly, I'd be more cautious about doing this now until I get the text indicating the calibration has been complete.

I only charge about once per week (usually to 85%) and let it run down to about 20% before plugging it in again. I'd say I do 100% charges every 2 weeks or so.

Zero regrets going with LFP (and saving close to $10,000).
