Hmmmm. Wonder what's behind this? Product placement? Virtue Signaling? It's obviously not reflecting reality. Wonder if they are going to do some dramatic story about running out of charge in an emergency.

Also, where is the cool flashing light bar on top?!?

Probably the one that was spotted with the window before it was wrapped!
IMPOSSIBLE!

The internet sez that window van was because Rivian was developing a commercial RV van. Even AI will tell you that, and AI is never wrong.

We had a thread here:
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/rivian-commercial-van-rcv-gets-windows.54893/
Many EV and car web sites picked up that thread and they unanimously conclued that Rivian was going into the RV market. So it must be true.

As of January 2026, Rivian is testing a new version of its Commercial Delivery Van (RCV/EDV) featuring windows, hinting at a potential expansion into the passenger shuttle or camper van markets. Drone footage revealed these windowed prototypes at the Illinois manufacturing plant, marking a shift from the traditional solid-walled cargo configuration. [1, 2, 3]

Key Details on Rivian Van Windows:
  • Design Shift: The new prototypes feature passenger-style windows on the sides, likely intended for passenger, shuttle, or lifestyle (camper) applications rather than solely for cargo.
  • Potential Consumer/Fleet Use: This development suggests Rivian may be aiming for a broader market, including fleet, shuttle, or commercial applications that require better visibility.
  • Van Specifications: The RCV is currently known for having a massive windshield and all-around cameras for visibility, which may be supplemented by these new windowed side panels. [1, 3, 4, 5, 6]
This move comes as Rivian seeks to diversify its commercial vehicle offerings beyond the initial, mostly solid-paneled delivery vans used by Amazon. [7]

AI responses may include mistakes.

I don't even know why I both to keep calling bullshit on narratives like this ... and I don't know why people keep accepting baseless speculation as true.

Likely they'll get lost in the woods somewhere between downtown and the airport. It's happened before on the show ...
Everyone knows that a Rivian can do 0-60 in 3 seconds flat. That's gotta be part of the storyline, and a fun ambulance ride.

Not trying to cause any issues...and my comment is more because I've come across it more frequently lately being in Minneapolis and getting sucked into Instagram comments. Is saying something is virtue signaling a form of virtue signaling?

In this case I'll go with the product placement option.

I think the biggest reason they are doing it is to stop the last source of burning diesel on set - a lot of lights on film and TV sets are powered by diesel generators, even on a soundstage (the generators are outside).

This show replaced all the other fuel-burning stuff with electric equipment, so this ambulance was the last thing to take care of..... Why not do it with a fancy rig?

There's a few stories about it in the Hollywood trade magazines that talk more about this, I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit: found it! https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t...tomy-electric-ambulance-season-22-1236488768/

What I find harder believe is that Grey's Anatomy is in its 22nd season. That's like forever for a primetime TV show.

Tell me about it. My wife's been "almost done" watching the show for something like a year.

I would only allow them to take me in that ambulance if it comes with the meridian audio system!

Yes. Though I’d use the word signaling alone.
And here I was using the term ironically; should have put it in "quotes."

But then, I read the referenced article, and lo and behold, there seems there is an element of virtue signaling in using the Rivian, along with a bit of advocacy and soft influence to encourage adoption in the ambulance industry as well as eliminating diesel fumes during production.

Not that there's anything wrong or objectionable about it, but it's curious because it seems our generation has honed its radar to pick up the faintest echoes of any attacks from either side in the ongoing cultural war. You would think the belligerents would want to sue for peace by now. Hopefully our kids will be sick to death of it by the time they take the reins.
