Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
First we saw the R2-D2-inspired R2. Then we saw a similar droid-inspired paint job using orange as the accent color. I was thinking about all of this and then tate16t posted the following image (see below). Could we be seeing hints of upcoming R2 launch colors through these paint jobs? We know there’s…

Cloud White Metallic (seen at the reveal)
Launch Green, now Rivian Green (hinted at by RJ)
Deep Silver Metallic (seen at auto shows)

BUT were the aforementioned droid-inspired R2’s hints at

Deep Blue Metallic?
Deep Orange Metallic?
(I’m just calling everything deep metallic until official color names surface. 🤣)

And does tate16t’s photo confirm the return of…

COMPASS YELLOW?!
(I think I might have peed in my pants a little.)

We’ll know soon, but not soon enough!!!

i want poo brown.
According to Edmunds:

“Brown ranks as the eighth most popular car color in the United States, making up about 0.9% of all vehicles sold. It is less common compared to colors like white, black, gray, and silver.”

They have a fun state-by-state chart at the link below. It also lists the most popular vehicle by state. Ohio is the Honda CR-V. 🫤

No chance. Your list is missing black, off-white, white-ish, silver, and grey.
Haha. They’ll definitely have multiple shades of gray. I’m wondering if that Deep Silver Metallic will become the new default color?

If those are the launch colors, I'll be disappointed. I really want a Rivian Blue or something like Borealis. So sick of white, black, and silver. And they're popular because its usually the included colors.
You don’t like the Deep Blue Metallic?

If it looked like R2D2 sure. But I wanted a brighter blue if its a solid color since my current car is blue.
I think it’ll be a solid blue, but definitely a darker shade, like in the pic. Maybe it’ll look different in full sunlight. I used to drive a Honda Fit Sport with a similar coloration.

I believe the crazy paint jobs are only for the test vehicles, just like the wraps. I’ve never seen a vehicle company do anything other than solid colors or two-toned finishes. MINI had an ombré roof at one time, but that’s about it. Anything outside of that would be a custom job. They’re trying to keep things simple and scalable and unfortunately custom paint jobs would add complexity.

Maybe Rivian Blue or another brighter blue will be an option? Only time will tell.

My son refers to that list as "the German rainbow" as it's in obvious display when passing MB/Audi/BMW lots.

Back in 2016 when the ND Miatas debuted I offended a Mazda salesman by saying "Why would I buy one? You offer 5 shades of gray and the same red you paint every vehicle in the lineup". Granted, that Mazda red is beautiful, but not for me if everyone chooses it. 🤣

I can't figure out how vinyl stickers on silver vehicles are interpreted to indicate future paint colors, but hopeful we get as many non-gray choices as possible. 🤞

Hmm...no lidar on early versions but free R2 wrap....that would be a tough decision...

At minimum they should offer all the same colors they offer with the R1's now. The paint formulas are already there.

Obviously I don't expect special edition colors like Borealis or Dune (even though those are super IMO). Just the current R1 colors plus the new version of Launch green. I currently have the Forest Green and I definitely want that color available for the R2.

Wonder if they are counting shades of Tan as Brown -- if so, then I still see lots of tan/pewter vehicles around.

Someone on here really wants copper for some reason. That would also be a brown, I am guessing.
