I love love love Rivian. I’m sad that I have to use Tesla to charge on the road. 2 trips from South Florida to Michigan. We are forced to use Tesla every time. Do better @Rivian. #sad

Ummmm what? Yes Tesla has the biggest charging network in the country. And the most reliable. Why are you asking Rivian to do better? Charging networks should the viewed separately from their cars. Not every EV maker has their own charging network so don't expect RAN to be the same as the supercharger network.

The cost!! Hands down Testa (yes for Rivians) is way less expensive. Again Rivian needs to do better. Clearly you do not understand.

You didn't mention cost at all in your original post. And you are not forced to use Tesla then, you choose to use them to save money. You can just as easily use RAN if you wanted to.

How are you forced?

Rivian Adventure Network, EVgo, Electrify America, ChargePoint all exist all over the country.

Tesla is the only automaker who basically insists you only use their branded network; because when they first got started, "rapid charging networks" didn't exist yet when they came out with theirs, and they chose not to go with the preexisting DC charging connector at the time.

Rivan first came out with CCS, which *DID* have a well-established charging network, so they didn't *NEED* to build out their own.

They did anyway, just because they saw that there were some locations that could use it.

Then they switched to J3400, which allows easier access to the Tesla network, and eventually will be the predominant connector.

But nobody's forcing you. You can get a CCS adapter and use "the other 99% of the charging sites."

I bought an $80,000 pickup. I will choose to spend $10 more per charge session to avoid paying Tesla money.

It’s called economics. You’re free to pay the higher costs. I will not. There are Rivian chargers and Tesla chargers in the same exact space - interesting to see all the Rivians using Tesla chargers.

Shell, Chevron, Mobil, Costco..... just glad to have gas when needed.
Same for electric. If not for Tesla may roadtrips would be overly difficult.

Besides I thought Rivian was focusing on putting charging at destination spots for recreation over general interstate travel.

Such as charging in Yosemite National Park. https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/ev-charging.htm

Depends on where you are. I've had no problem driving all over the Western US, while towing a trailer, without using Superchargers.

And I wasn't just sticking to the interstates.

Ok good for you. I will pay a bit higher to keep helping out Rivian. An extra few bucks doesn't make a huge difference.

No disrespect- I love Rivian! The point is from an economic stand point they need to do better. The average person will not go to an over priced gas station (same applies here). If what one posted is accurate (re; Rivian is focused on destination spots for recreation ) that makes more sense. Respectably, that’s not good for the recreation peeps either. Fast forward - Rivian owners have been complaining about this for way too long. Check out YouTube videos, apps, blogs etc.

None taken. I"m not the type of person to put cost above all else. I used to support my local gas station even though they were more expensive than a mile down the street. Just not worth it to me. And I'll do the same with RAN. If there is one available I will use it to support Rivian.

Knock yourself out. I’m not.

Good for you. I’m not…as may do not. When Tesla and RAN are in the same parking lot (never mind driving a mile) - interesting to see Rivans using Tesla. It’s called economics….but most importantly- facts. #later #notime

Near my home there are two gas stations (Racetrack & H.E.B) literally next to one another. Now the H.E.B. station is typically .10 cheaper (Reg. Unleaded), yet the Racetrack station STILL routinely has cars lined up for gas. I'm amazed every time I drive by or gas up my daughter's ICE vehicle @ the H.E.B. Granted this is only one example but your claim that "average person will not go to overpriced gas station" doesn't hold water. Bottomline, its all a matter of individual choice where one refuels or in our case chooses to re-charge.

I don't know about your part of the country, but EA is typically competitively priced when using the membership rate here in CO.

There's also a new RAN in CO that is priced lower than the adjacent Tesla station.

EVGo is always a rip-off, and Chargepoint is all over the map. Ionna prices look generally competitive without having to worry about a subscription.

I expect you could have found better pricing with some effort, but I admittedly don't know east coast charging at all.

Seems to me that asking a company that is losing billions to lower their charging prices because you want cheaper charging is crazy. You don't charge there, they don't get your revenue. If lower volume and higher margins works for them financially, good for them. Go where the cost is lowest.
