Good for you. I’m not…as may do not. When Tesla and RAN are in the same parking lot (never mind driving a mile) - interesting to see Rivans using Tesla. It’s called economics….but most importantly- facts. #later #notime

Near my home there are two gas stations (Racetrack & H.E.B) literally next to one another. Now the H.E.B. station is typically .10 cheaper (Reg. Unleaded), yet the Racetrack station STILL routinely has cars lined up for gas. I'm amazed every time I drive by or gas up my daughter's ICE vehicle @ the H.E.B. Granted this is only one example but your claim that "average person will not go to overpriced gas station" doesn't hold water. Bottomline, its all a matter of individual choice where one refuels or in our case chooses to re-charge.

facts- does hold water. The average person will not. And yes it’s a choice. It’s called economic. PERIOD

Seems to me that asking a company that is losing billions to lower their charging prices because you want cheaper charging is crazy. You don't charge there, they don't get your revenue. If lower volume and higher margins works for them financially, good for them. Go where the cost is lowest.

I don't know about your part of the country, but EA is typically competitively priced when using the membership rate here in CO.

There's also a new RAN in CO that is priced lower than the adjacent Tesla station.

EVGo is always a rip-off, and Chargepoint is all over the map. Ionna prices look generally competitive without having to worry about a subscription.

I expect you could have found better pricing with some effort, but I admittedly don't know east coast charging at all.

I don't get why people stick to 1 charging network, unless you have zero options. When we travel we use what is in our path, period end of story. EVGO, Chargepoint, EA, Tesla, Rivian, Blink, etc.

Lots of options out there.

If the carbon footprint matters to you, Rivian claims to have offsets for all of the RAN network. I don't believe Tesla makes the same claim. I will use a RAN if one is available, even if they cost more. Less crowded, supports a company I believe in, they always work, etc.

The cost!! Hands down Testa (yes for Rivians) is way less expensive. Again Rivian needs to do better. Clearly you do not understand.

But Rivian is a startup EV / software company that also has a smallish charging network just because (marketing.). Tesla is a tech and energy company that focused on building out an EV network very early on to drive the adoption of EVs when nobody was willing to partner and build. Rivian is not trying to compete in the energy business….

Then it’s pretty stupid that they actually half try. Which is a bigger loss? Putting a RAN that nobody uses literally across the street from a Supercharger, or charging less and earning some business?

Some busy Tesla stations are terrible for vehicles like the R1 that don't have a charge port on the driver's side quarter panel. You need to wait for two adjacent spots to open up so you can block one to fit in, or hope that the rightmost stall has an open spot to the right, or that there is a "pull in" spot on the far left. V4 stations with the longer cables are still very rare. Queuing at one of these stations is a disaster waiting to happen.

There is far more than economics involved in choosing where to charge.

Those charging EVs with charge ports not conveniently located for the Tesla chargers (like my Q8 Etron, awaiting an R2) appreciate the RAN, EV America, etc. superchargers. The L front port location makes the Tesla superchargers difficult, and usually, but not always, means taking 2 spaces. 90%+ of my charging is at home, so the $$$ charged is pretty meaningless. But on my trips from SoCal to NoCal, up the I5, the RAN station has 6 chargers, the Tesla 50, so it’s a real convenience.
