The iX3 is going to be a hit, but man I can’t stand how pretty much any modern BMW looks.
As someone who has loved BMW and owned 3 of them....the new designs are hideous.

I just can't understand why they rotated the grills (both real and fake) 90 degrees - does no one on the design team realize it makes the front end look like demented beavers?

The execution is so good on our iX, the grill doesn't even register, in fact, some guy on one of the iX forums did some design studies with smaller grills, "landscape" grills, and the big ol' beaver teeth actually work much better.

And of course, the new iX3 is using some old school BMW design language on the front grills.

On topic, I am pretty stoked about the R2, especially after the Demuro [pre]review and subsequent podcast discussion.

We've got a reservation, made about 5 minutes after the original announcement (like as soon as the option came online), not sure where that puts us in terms of actual schedule, but I'm definitely holding out for a tri-motor :)

If Rivian's shit is not together by the time we can get one delivered, it'll be another iX (M70 this time) or an iX3 M-flavor.

Sadly, while we also have a very early Scout reservation, I don't think that's on the table in the short-er-ish term, there's new information circulating that first deliveries are going to be well into 2028.

We too are a instant reservation holder, but we'll be waiting for LiDAR. I know Rivian also said you'd be at the front of the line if you already owned an R1.

Staring price of the M70 is $112k. Yikes. Almost double the R2 Launch edition...?
I'm not a BMW guy anyway, but geez.

Yeah, depending on timing, we might wind up "losing our place in line" so to speak, like if our buying opportunity comes up and we pass (because the trim we want isn't available yet).

That would be fine too, if we bail on the Jeep in the next few months, keep the iX which isn't actually due to be till April '27 that timing might be perfect for the next round of R2s.

Hahaha, I've also been losing my mind on a plan that involves replacing the Wrangler with a Moab 392 Wrangler and bailing on the BMW :p

(We've got a major move / life change in May/June of this year and the plan is to drop to just one vehicle, and I do really like the idea of something rugged and city proof ...)

Oh, they're not really in the same market segment, the iX is really the BEV (for now) X5, so it's kind of competing more at the R1S price point. And the M70 has every option, including things like the B&W sound system upgrade and whatnot.

Plus, BMW has some incredible discounts, we went through a broker, and we got our xDrive50 (pretty loaded, air/sport/multi-function seats heat, cooled, massage) for like $21K off of retail (as a cap reduction on a lease). An R1S Dual with a $95K MSRP is $6500 down and ~$1300/month, our $99K iX was 0$ down and < $800/month :)

Side note: we had a '08 4Runner Ltd (V8 model), LOVED that ride (saw you have one). I'm thinking the R2 is going to be as close as we get in the short term to a BEV 4Runner

That's exactly why I want one. Really really miss my 2000 3rd Gen 4Runner.

I have an R2 reservation but really waiting for R3. I'll give the iX3 a few production years to work out the gremlins and then it is likely going into the stable.

I'm impressed you got 21k off as cap reduction on an iX lease. The lease for my IX50 only gave me 10k off. Can you point me in the right direction to find a good broker in the future? I may just go for the IX3 if the R2 doesnt float my boat.

Yeah, it was solid, We got the $7500 federal rebate, then BMW was doing some kind of rebate I want to say was around $5K and the dealer basically matched those two as well.

We got it out of MD and had it shipped down here to FL basically to our door, I mean technically to the Publix down the street since delivery service preferred a more open area so we used a back service road which was terrific and just a couple of miles south of us.

I think the broker fee was like $500 maybe $600. The nice thing about it is I did almost nothing except identify the car from their spreadsheet, they facilitate everything else, I think I had one 10 minute call with a dealer and one 5 minute call with the transport service. The extra stuff above the car purchase itself came out to like 12 or $1300, which was well worth it given the additional discount and trivial time investment.

We went through a broker for our Wrangler (also a massive discount, like $23K) as well and that car also came out of MD (which may be part of the pricing magic) and that car was also delivered down at the Publix (since we knew that's a great drop off location), and funny enough, that broker wound up merging his services with the company that we got our BMW through!

I found these brokers through LeaseHackr, in the forum area (https://forum.leasehackr.com/) where you can select your location and just peruse the deals, they link up to spreadsheets with car specs, pricing, discounts, etc.

I can get you the specific broker and a contact name if you want :)

all this concern about range seems to ignore the fact the epstein island guy's superchargers are now open to Rivians. The Count has had no range anxiety ever since they opened up.

Thanks, that's lots of good info. I checked out the Leasehackr forum area and it looks good. I'm in California, so i suppose the deals might not be as good out here. But from the few iX listed it seems it is almost as good as what you got. thanks again.
