So, how has it been like with State Farm? How has it been for filing claims and getting repairs? I've been a long time State Farm customer, decades. But chose to go with Nationwide-Rivian for my T due to extent of coverage and their new car replacement policy. After nearly three years, I'm really tired of their ever-increasing premiums. Couple years ago, State Farm gave me a far lower quote. But from reading other experiences, they don't seem to even have Rivian in their system. Is this still the case?
No issues here since 2024. One claim for a windshield replacement and they covered the full cost no questions asked.

Currently using state farm on the big island. It's $170 every 6 months.
Had a broken windshield but just paid outright to the shop to prevent rates raising. Planning on using it when there is no choice.

Update: Made the switch. Cost difference is huge. $367/mo vs $160. And Rivian/Nationwide's primary advantage, New Car Replacement Plus, would have been made null come this July since it is for vehicles that are 3 years old or less.

We got hit by a deer in oregon last summer with $18,500 of damage. State Farm paid right away and we had a $500 deductible so it all worked out well. It is considered a no fault incident because no other car was involved so insurance did not go up.

Nice. I left state farm when they got really expensive in Texas, but we've been back with them for a few years. Big plus that they've made the Hagerty deal, so that my Rx7 is lumped in with everything else. They did great when my wife got t-boned.
Rates have been good as well. I didn't get quite as much of a discount as I hoped when I bundled life and umbrella, but it's still cheaper all in.

When I called Rivian/Nationwide they didn't even try to defend or talk me out of it. It's almost as if they've handled such calls so much that they've long accepted defeat. The caveat is I've been with State Farm since the 90s and never fully left. So that helps.

Recently did a claim for a rodent that chewed through the coolant line. Not sure how he got there but the pictures showed bite mark damage. SF send an adjuster to look at the damage and approved whatever Rivian had invoiced for the repairs. I paid out of pocket first and then SF reimbursed me after. Pretty smooth process and it was my first claim with SF.
I had $10k worth of rodent damage to my R1S recently and filed with State Farm. They ended up paying for a little more than half of it. Looking at the breakdown, basically if they can find the same part anywhere else, including eBay, for less, that’s the amount they’re willing to pay. Though very disappointing, I’ve read this is fairly common practice in the insurance industry. The justification being, the part they’re replacing on your vehicle was also not new.

I think as others have said, all these insurance companies suck one way or another. Plus I live in Los Angeles, so auto insurance (and now home insurance) has always been high. I’ve been with State Farm for a couple decades with multiple different policies (auto, home, life, etc.), and overall I’d say they’re not the cheapest, but they are reliable. And though the rodent damage claim sucked, it was a pretty straightforward and quick process with State Farm. Same as NetworkM, I paid out of pocket to Rivian for the repair and State Farm reimbursed me with a physical check. (I think they sent a physical check because the amount it too high.)

SF has been less expensive and handled The Count's 2023 accident in his recently delivered 2022 R1S without any problems. The at fault driver that hit The Count was also a SF customer and a few months after repairs were done SF automatically sent The Count a check to reimburse him for his deductible (as per SF policy).

They all do it. It’s not just common it’s standard. And every single business try their best to spend less than what they take in. When it comes to collision repairs, consumers have right to demand new replacement OE parts. But they are also responsible to pay cost difference; beyond coverage limit.

another long time State farm customer. Two homes, 3 cars, umbrella. We hit a deer and took it to the closest Rivian certified collision center in Las Vegas. Long story short. It took a long time to get the adjuster to even look at the car. In the end State farm wouldn’t pay the labor rate the shop charged so we were out $1K + deductible on a $23K, 6 week repair. We have since moved everything to USAA. Our agent tried to be helpful and work things out but claim adjustment dept wouldn’t budge. It was the only claim we made in 15 years.

i have State Farm on my R1T. I feel its a pretty reasonable rate.
I had one claim from when I backed into a brick column and damaged the rear corner. Took it to the only certified Rivian body shop in Alabama and it was repaired perfectly State Farm covered it fully (minus deductible of course), including an additional claim for sensor calibration. I can’t complain!

We just switched our home and autos to State Farm. Autos were with USAA previously. $1045 for six months for our '25 R1S Tri and '26 Sierra EV AT4. Missouri policy with 300/500/100 and matching UM/UIM. $0 comprehensive deductible and $500 collision deductible. Emergency roadside and rental at $75 per day/ $2,250 per occurrence. Drive Safe discount with the Bluetooth pucks.

The Rivian portion is $521.21 USAA didn't raise our rates after 6 months and our agent says State Farm doesn't play those games either. From my experience Progressive, Geico and a lot of others do the introductory rate game to suck you in.

USAA and State Farm are the only companies I have found with reasonable rates on our R1S. I checked with several others and the Rivian was out of control.

Main reason we switched to SF was our home was substantially less than what it was with Allstate.
