As does Tesla - that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about an option in the app that indicates you want it first, which Tesla has and Rivian doesn't. I could choose not to select it and others who are dying to have it could choose to select it.
I own a Tesla as well and don’t recall seeing that option but it sounds like both options from Rivian and Tesla have the same effect. They both allow early adopters to test updates and expose bugs prior to general deployments.

Nope, completely different. I don't have it selected in my MY and it ensures I don't receive the first waves of updates. It's perfectly reasonable to give people the option not to be beta testers.

"You can adjust your software update preferences by tapping ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ > ‘Software Update Preference.’ You can select between ‘ADVANCED’ or ‘STANDARD.’ Select ‘ADVANCED’ to receive software updates as soon as they become available for your vehicle configuration and region. This feature is only available with software update 2019.16 or later."

I don’t have that option. I’m on 2026.2.3.

Oh well for another forum not this one.

Sounds like win-win to me.

Get a ticket going asap!

Maybe a soft reset would help if you haven’t tried that ( you mentioned the hard reset)?
My ticket(s) are being 'evaluated' I have reset the car so many times, both soft and hard. 5 resets just this morning. The moment my cameras are accessed the system will crash.

I have no idea what you mean by "system crashed", but out of tens of thousands of people who have already installed this update, you're the only one saying this. So it doesn't seem to be a Rivian problem so much as a your vehicle problem. You seem more intent on casting shade on Rivian and the whole notion of OTA updates than you do on solving your perceived problem.

Oh, and look what I just found, your post from a month ago:

So this "crash" problem is something you've been having since before this 2026.03 update, and is thus totally unrelated to the 2026.03 update and is totally off-topic in this thread about 2026.03. You're just using this thread as another opportunity to whine about a problem you've been having for a while now, instead of taking your vehicle in to be fixed. There is no evidence to suggest that a flaw in the 2026.03 update has made your vehicle unusable. Great job Rivian!
Wow thank you for digging this up. I've been holding off on this update (got bit once by taking a tesla update asap) and just came looking for feedback on this one.

Seems a silly question but with the new winter range indicator is the total mileage they’re showing before or after the deduction? Example, say my app shows 50 miles range, then says I’m losing 10 miles due to cold. Does that mean it’s estimating 40 miles range or that I woulda had 60?

I don't have the update yet, but I would lean towards the former over the latter. A picture of things might help my total guess...

What I mean by crash is that both screens go black, and the main screen has a picture of a yellow steering wheel with the instructions to hold both buttons down to reset the system. Is that not a crash? Do you have a better term to describe that?

I am not trying to cast shade on Rivian in any way. I've got lots of rosy posts on this platform, and I am one of their biggest fanboys. But, when / if I have a problem with my car I turn to this platform to see if there are answers or others in the same boat. I think that's what this site is all about, no?

Am I really the only one of the 10s of thousands that is having this problem? I don't know, I do seem to be the only one posting here. Is this site 100% indicative of the Rivian fleet? Does every single Rivian owner have an account here? Are you privy to Rivian's internal service logs to be able to confirm this?

You "found" that I have been having this problem before?! I don't think that I've ever tried to hide the problem. The issue, as I have previously posted, began for me with the 2025.46.30 update. Prior to that my truck was rock solid. I anxiously awaited 2026.3.0 with the hope that it would resolve my system crashes (see definition above); however, it has not. Infact, my car's system seems to be crashing with much more frequency.

Could this be a vehicle / hardware problem and not a software problem? Absolutely! I had a mobile service appointment scheduled, and then when 2026.03 did not resolve my issue I was asked to bring it in to the service center for evaluation.

I got bit by a few Tesla updates in the past too! I seem to be the only one having an issue, but unless the update offers something new why mess with a good thing? 2025.46.30 offered no new functionality, just bug fixes - I installed it and my problems began. 2026.3.0 does offer cold weather driving enhancements (and did not fix my issues), so if you can benefit from those enhancements then you should install it.

That was my thought too but it’s not clear from the pic. Pic attached.

But that's not the context we're talking about here. And specifically I'm not at all criticizing @waitingonanr1s for making the decision to wait, I'm criticizing people like @DuncIT for undermining the system so that people feel they need to wait, despite there being no reason for it other than "it might do something bad to my vehicle". It's really easy to make people lose faith and undermine confidence in systems that work well. Voting for instance. It's much harder to build up and make positive contributions to the systems, and to build trust which once lost can't easily be regained. Call it drama if you like, I call it selfish, short-sighted, and irresponsible on the part of the people doing the undermining. And when this behavior is persistent and recurring (each and every update) I feel the need to call it out. We should all be vigilant against "fake news" IMO.

In the case of an OTA update, yes of course use your brain to decide when to do it. But many are saying they have skipped updates because they want to wait to see if it breaks things. (It doesn't). Then *any* report of breakage, even something clearly not connected to the update like @DuncIT's problem will validate their need to wait and confirms their bias against installing an OTA update. This sort of decision making isn't helping anyone.
For someone who "Found proof" that my car's issue existed before 2026.3.0 you must have also read that I wasn't encouraging anyone to not apply the update (2025.46.30 in my case). I simply said that it wasn't working for me - it was causing the car's infotainment system to crash each time the cameras were activated. I was just looking to see if anyone else was having the same problem. When 2026.3.0 came out I reiterated the issues that I was having, and said that the new software release had not resolved my issues.

What are you looking for here? If things don't work for someone should they keep their mouths shut? Should we only happily jump up and down when things are working perfectly? There are 100s (thousands I imagine) of threads in these forums that talk about issues people are having. Few, if any, of those posters hate Rivian or are trying to undermine them - they're just looking for an explanation or a resolution.

I hope that your vehicle never has a software related issue, but if it ever does I trust you won't post about here - for fear of undermining the process!

I believe 50 miles is your actual projected range based on current cold conditions
