correct, somebody needs to take that risk. that person is not me. you are salty on the OE battery whereas I am not so you make a much better guinea pig.Because that's exactly how product development success works.
I'm already skeptical because of the odd name.Their website is devoid of any actual technical specifications for their Sodium batteries. I’d approach their claims skeptically, they don’t have the best track record for being trustworthy.
I did not realize the Ohhmu was having such troubles with the LFP replacement.well, their first attempt at solving this for Rivian didn't work out so well and that product is no longer even being offered.
Except being charged when freezing. LFP is just awful in the cold. Tesla uses LFP 12.8v batteries but they are also heated. This is sodium's biggest advantage over LFP right now as it can be used in sub-freezing temperatures without babying or heating it, and they maintain their "capacity" even when cold, unlike LFP that craters. Eventually sodium should also be less expensive if it is adopted at scale. Hopefully more manufacturers can hop on the low voltage sodium train. I don't see Rivian developing a solution for LV LFP when sodium has such potential (no pun intended).Very likely. I have no room in my life for lead-acid. The Rivian is the only thing with that garbage. The motorcycles, generator, everything have modern batteries (LFP). They simply don't care about anything and last forever. No special charging needed.
So my concern is that this battery has its own BMS for charging and battery temp. Anyone have any thoughts on how the Rivian HV batt to LV batt inverter and battery charger will handle the BMS.Looks like the lithium option is discontinued. I like the low temp compatibility of the sodium more than the lithium heaters.

I know how to rent a U-Haul to avoid that.Except being charged when freezing.
The BMS on the replacement battery is just to protect the battery and maintain balance of the cells. Actual shut down protection should never happen save for the battery dropping below -30. A few will limit the charging amps. None of this is an issue to the vehicle DC converter. So my concern is that this battery has its own BMS for charging and battery temp. Anyone have any thoughts on how the Rivian HV batt to LV batt inverter and battery charger will handle the BMS.
There's a guy on the other rivian forum who has been providing updates since January with some battery logging...So far so good. Some other forums have people who previously bought the Ohmu lithium battery and were given this sodium battery a while ago to test. There may be some reviews out there by now. I’m surprised nobody here has posted about getting and using the sodium battery.
You can laugh at people's skepticism when you put your money where your mouth is. Why don't YOU show us they work since you're mocking people that don't trust them?Rivian is a perfectly normal name, in contrast.
Keep the hilarity rolling!
