What's up with the sound system choices, has Rivian completely given up on audio?

Nine speakers in premium/performance trims
Five speakers in the base trim

Heck, I'd be better off plugging in a pair of Homepod minis.
Yeah, speaker count seems on the low side…but you never know until you hear it with your own ears. Hopefully it has Atmos. Anyone know speaker count with the excellent sounding system in the MY?

Edit: I looked it up, 15 drivers plus a sub. No wonder it sounds great! A bit disappointed with R2…but will hold final thoughts until I actually listen to it.

That RWD with large battery is under $50k, and would be something my sister would pick up (an upgrade from her ID.4 for sure).
It is $49,985 with dest. One option and you are over.

The base 265mile range R2 is really the only sub-$50k model.

Was that in the Ars article before it got yanked?

While 4,400lbs is not 5,00lbs, it's better than the 3,500lbs you get with the Model Y (most direct comparison)
I hope the R3X gets at least 4,000. That would be enough for "around town" towing of my teardrop.

That's definitely a question that needs to be asked by journalists. There's a big demand for a max pack option. I would pay for it in a heartbeat.
I don't see the room from some of cut-away pics that have been shown. Unless they change cell size/capacity.

Agreed on the SW being the bottleneck. I think it will be another 3-5 years. By then current HW is obsolete and people will complain about being left behind, but that's tech. Unless Rivian changes course and allows you to upgrade then people will always have to debate when is the right time for them to jump in.

The problem with lidar will be the software. They will use it for data collection initially because the software will be ready and it helps even non-lidar gen 2 cars.

For customer level advancements that really uniquely take advantage of lidar, i'm a little more skeptical how soon they can get everything developed. It could be a much longer wait.

That's the rub in the decision making for people who kind of want more autonomy, but don't really care if it's the software is that far out. There's no clear way to know at this point.

Compare to Tesla pricing:

LE is like for like with Model Y Perf(great deal for those who can snag one)

R2 Prem AWD is $5000 more.

R2 RWD Large is $3500 more.

R2 Standard is $5010 more.

Beats the 6, yes I said 6, speaker system in my Equinox EV. I changed the door speakers to Kickers but it's still not enough. This is my first vehicle without a branded sound system and it's awful. Hopefully the 9-speaker setup will have an amp, sounds like it anyway, two mids and tweets per door is 8 speakers, and then a center speaker or more likely a sub in the back.

10-80% in 29 minutes while not surprising is disappointing. Rough math says that averages around 120kW

It won't compete with the iX3's 800v architecture for DCFC for sure. As stations get closer together one might be more efficient with time by charging to ~50% and moving on to the next charger. I once made a trip in a Bolt EUV with 55k max (down in the 20's around 70%) across several states so 10-80 in 29 minutes sounds ok to me. I think our Equinox EV does about that. Take the dogs to use the restroom, use the restroom ourselves, and wait maybe 5 more minutes then go.

My Gen1 R1T has been quite close to the EPA estimates. In the end, it's all down to how you drive. Just like with an ICEV.
That's great to hear. What's the efficiency drop off like for freeway road trips?

As much as this is in line with realistic expectations, this just might not work for me. Before the loss of the tax credit I was hoping for a 55k launch edition, so with that loss and the pricing the number is $12,500 higher than i was hoping for and I just don't know if I love it enough to bridge that gap.

What were you hoping for on the launch edition price? It was never going to be the base $45k number.... almost all vehicles don't launch with the base model anymore.
