I assume we’ll find out soon, but does anyone know if the adaptive shocks are connected to any external sensors or inputs, or is the damping adjustment all internal? I’m sure they work well for a while but eventually I’d think replacing them with Bilstein/Fox/King etc conventional high end shocks would be a desirable option, without having dangling wires or error codes because your shocks aren’t plugged in. I’m pretty sure that similar shocks on Chevy trucks are self-contained.

The best we can hope for is that multiple companies offer great point to point ADAS. It will no longer be a luxury and will simply become a cheap option.
Yes! These systems will perform better, they will become even safer, and the prices will go down.

Rivian and Tesla seem to be in the best position at the moment, but I welcome all challengers to up their game.

To each his own. I have my car set to Mad Max mode and it drives like a competent person. If it drove like ****, I wouldn’t be paying the $99/month for it. So there’s that — why would I waste money on a trash system?

With that being said, it’s “on the job training” for all of these systems — Rivian and Tesla included. They’re only getting better. When I first tried FSD three years ago, it drove like a drunk 16-year-old that just got his license and I dismissed it. Today, it’s lightyears ahead and I’m comfortable paying for it.

Rivian is going down that same path. It will only get better with time. I welcome our AI overlords 😂

Again, from inside the cabin, it seems fine. When you are on the road next to one, it’s not.

Another example. 2 weeks ago, a neighbor was having their new Y pull into their driveway. It pulled in. It’s at the end of a cul de sac. The Y did not see me or kids on the street and as it adjusted to get in, it pulled out and caused a kid on a bike to have to swerve.

Not. Cool. Neighbor said they would never use FSD in the neighborhood again.

I’m hoping that all capable vehicles will be able to communicate with each other cross-platform. This will increase the safety factor and, in-theory reduce congestion.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
How long can we expect the launch edition to stick around? Any insight based on the R1 launch editions?
I’d say end of 2026. They’ll still sell the performance model for the same price minus the lifetime autonomy+, badging, etc.

Do you think this doesn't happen to human in the driver's seat?

As software defined vehicles, Rivians are definitely not the same as Chevy trucks - count this as an early out on the non-software adjustable adaptive shocks.

Agreed they're very different vehicles, as I've already stated. However, my worry is that there would be a lot of folks who're going to be assuming what I'm assuming and will cross-shop the R2 vs the MY. Whether the R2 can command a 5k price premium will remain to be seen. I was really hoping Rivian (with all the work they put into cost-optimizing the R2) would gets it's pricing so solid relatively to the Model Y that it would be a no-brainer for cross-shoppers. If these numbers are indeed true, alas it doesn't look like that's the case.
Dont forget the Volvo EX60. Another boxy EV built for rugged weather. So far, it looks like it will be priced about $10k more than the R2

I've always thought this was the real way self driving could improve things congestion wise. Vehicles could collaboratively share data, decreasing follow distance at intersections from a red light stop, in a city for instance, light goes green, vehicles react moving forward simultaneously as a group. Similarly reducing congestion by taking alternative routes rather than focusing on main arteries.
