What I want to know is when they will have the R2 in the spaces. I don't even need the ability to drive one. I just want to see one. Rivian ignores the East coast quite a bit. If you don't live in NY or Florida they avoid most everything in between (unless you count the Georgia factory.)

Just to level set... I put my reservation in today (so I am getting something in 2029) and I got emails from Rivian about my reservation and got asked if I would accept a launch edition.
Take it!

Ironically, that's also a very NY attitude.
I'm very confused. Please explain? Is it New Yorkers complain the mid Atlantic is ignored? Or that Rivian acts like New Yorkers and only acknowledges NY and FL as places on the east coast? From what it seems like most people on the West Coast and Southwest only acknowledge NY and FL and imagines the east coast as one of those 2 places.

I received an email from Rivian today. Guessing I'm not the only one. It says In June I'll see my estimated time to order. Anyone else? I was hoping to have this thing by then.

Day 1 reservation number I believe. March 7th
Nobody knows. For those paying attention, the configurator won't go live until June, and we know employees get first, probably followed by celebrities and/or influencers, then by reservations held by current Rivian owners. If it runs similar to R1, then you'll never get a linear delivery plan based on the date/time of order.....but will get some kind of delivery timeline when you configure.

I never actually got an email from Rivian, but I went online yesterday morning and submitted my "Definitely" preference for the Launch Edition trim.

I wonder if those who are receiving more concrete language/communications from Rivian are those who already own one.

I reserved in the first 5 minutes reservations were open but have not yet owned a Rivian.

I think they go by this map I saw on Reddit.

First, you're welcome (see attached photo). But realistically, if this is like every other recent EV launch, pretty much anyone can put in a reservation today and get a launch edition if they want one. There is no long waiting line. This is not saying anything bad about Rivian or the R2, it is just that the typical conversion rate of EVs from reservation to transaction has been less than 10% (Lightning, Cybertruck, etc.). If the same holds true for Rivian, they already have more launch editions than customers.

This should be no surprise. Many of the "200k" reservation holders are international, others are looking for the lower-spec model or the tri-motor or the Level-4 Autonomy capable. Some will just hold out for different aesthetic options. For others it is just bad timing, a lot of economic uncertainty, etc.. And then there is a significant group that is not happy with the final specs / vehicle.

Bottom line: there is no scarcity just like there was no scarcity for the Cybertruck. Get the one that works best for you. If that is the launch edition, grab it. If you want different options, it is worth waiting.

From what it seems like most people on the West Coast and Southwest only acknowledge NY and FL and imagines the east coast as one of those 2 places.
Well it was a joke, I thought it was obvious, but since it missed I will try to be more clear. For context, I spent half my life on the East Coast, including more than 10 years in Maryland where you are, as well as living in about 9 other states along the coast including NY and FL. So what I said is based on personal experience. And BTW in most parts of the country they think I come from NY based on my New England accent. However New Yorkers immediately recognize that's not true.

The NYC attitude (I should have included that C before) is famously captured by that New Yorker magazine cover showing a map of the world with NYC taking up the entire map and everyone else being just a sliver in the distance.

My personal experience is that I hear almost as many greater-NYC accents in Boca as I do in the Bronx. Florida is a retirement and vacation destination for New Yorkers, much more so than for any other state along the coast.

So I'm saying that New Yorkers (C) see themselves as the center of the world, and the rest of the East Coast is just the flyover or drive-through states to them. Yes, that's a bit of a stereotype, but my statement was a humorous observation not a judgement. I suspect that this attitude can be found more-or-less in most different regions.

If you think you are marginalized as a Mid-Atlantic resident, let me tell you that East Coasters in general (including Marylanders) have this same sort of self-centered attitude towards the West Coast. Do you know how many times I have been woken up by a phone call at 5am because someone on the East Coast just assumed that if it's 8am there then it's 8am everywhere? Likewise, if you watch the news, which is highly East Coast -centric, when they talk about the "West" it is almost always used as a synonym for California. As if there were no difference between LA and WY. But I digress ...

Regardless, I don't think Rivian is especially focused on specific areas, except to the extent that they've learned their lesson that it's difficult to support vehicles in states that forbid service centers or where the purchasers are far from service centers. As a new-ish and growing company, they need to focus their resources, and one way to do that is to *start* by putting service centers in the most populous areas, and in those areas where they think they will have the most customers. That's what they've done, and they continue to expand into less-serviced areas. Maybe not as fast as you would like, but the growth over the past 4 years has been substantial. You can't expect them to be fully deployed everywhere all at once, and you shouldn't want them to expend a lot of effort on selling in areas where they still have inadequate support infrastructure.

I submit that Rivian *didn't* and still *doesn't* really prioritize Florida - the 3 RAN stations in FL were all opened after the two in MD, and while there are 4 FL service centers vs 2 in MD, the MD ones have been opened longer and most FL residents still have a far longer drive to get to a service center than anyone in MD. Likewise, per-capita, I think NYC has few service options than many other regions. Everyone in every state has some cause to feel "neglected" by Rivian, but I don't really see that Rivian is disregarding certain areas (except Canada - sorry). It's just that some areas are more difficult (dealership laws for example) or less profitable to get into. I prefer to look at the trend, and I think the situation is clearly improving from a customer's perspective.

I wondered what happened, I was cooking some hotdogs at my R2 reservation camp, looked up, and noticed I was now 3rd in line ...
