When I financed my XC60 back in 2018, I literally got financing options within like fifteen minutes of submitting my paperwork to the dealership's finance guy. So I really don't think you need more than an hour or so to figure that out

If using a captive option, sure... And Rivian probably wants to encourage that (and discourage outside financing) since they make money on it. But if you want to wire funds, use another bank, need to sell investments or whatever... That can take a few days or even a week.

That's fair. I've only ever used the in-house financing for my new cars, and have always paid in cash for the used ones. So I guess I don't really know how long the alternatives take ?‍♂

I think Rivian will know how to handle just about any financing scenario that comes along. They are not going to ship and deliver a vehicle until financing is approved.

I know of 3 deliveries in the Portland, OR area and one in Bend.
None are to people active on this forum (nor are they employees).

Don't want to spoil the negative vibes, so I'll step out. Carry on.
I'm a bit surprised, albeit pleasantly so, that deliveries have been made in Oregon. Portland's service center is a long way from being complete and Bend will likely never have one. I was under the impression that service center proximity was one of the determining factors for delivery. ??‍♂

It only took 30 minutes to setup the ability to wire funds for the DSP. Took less than an hour once I sent the funds to get the confirmation. Pretty sure an ACH/Wire transfer to Rivian will not take very long to process.

How long does it take to sort financing? My credit union can give me an answer in like 25 minutes. If I can get a better rate elsewhere I can refinance after I take delivery.
It’s a little different in Canada but it’s more or less similar. Credit is not the issue but I would hope that they give you more than a few days rather a few weeks to sort out that part. I, personally, would need to sell my current truck as well so the more lead time I get the better it is for me.

As @CommodoreAmiga stated I would need to liquidate some investments and timing is important.

Yep - If I'm selling stock that's three days to clear - but again I can finance it in 20 minutes and pay the loan of 3 days later. However, unlike a lot of folks I don't need to sell a car so I have a lot flexibility there.

Oregon makes it easy to buy a car, unlike it's northern neighbor. I suspect issues surrounding direct sales in Washington state are preventing non-employee deliveries.

Maybe, although I’ve been assured by my Guide that the direct-sales issue in Washington won’t cause any problems. The purchase will just be processed elsewhere and then the car “imported” into the state

So is it safe to say that the "first mile" drive opportunities, or even the one on one drive opportunities prior to taking delivery have halted? Have they moved to the "you have 7 days to try it out" mentality and away from having folks test drive before you buy? I've been in since 2018 and no way i'm not taking delivery, but still would have liked to have sat in it at least prior to finalizing delivery. However, if sitting in it means delaying delivery, I'll take my 7 day chances!

I’ve been curious about this too. Personally, I’m hoping for a “have your
Cake and eat it too,” option: first mile events return and I see colors, interiors and options so we can feel good about the configuration. Then take delivery and immediately go on a 6 day, 900 mile road trip and decide how we like living with it.

I realize my June/July delivery window prevents me from living with the day-to-day excitment you Jan/Feb people have regarding the possibility of delivery, however, i just chatted with a Rivian person who claimed my time frame was still accurate and he has seen “many“ R1S’s moving down the production line recently…i hope those are aheading to your drive ways soon

I'd love to see many R1S' anywhere! Feels like even ones with manufacturer plates are non existant these days aside from the RJ and Claire editions. I want to believe but hard to do when you can't see with your own eyes.

Now who's got a drone to go check the Rivian plant parking lots for shiny new R1S' ?!?

I'll believe it when I see R1S's sitting on delivery trucks or people picking them up. I'm sure they are seeing a lot of R1Ts running through the production line though!
