I just paid the one time fee of $2500 for Autonomy+. Not sure if this was a good decision. Currently, it sucks, but I’m optimistic for the future. I also plan to keep my R1S for a long time as it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. So why have monthly payments.

I have used the trial versions (pre-launch of being able to buy it) and have found it to be pretty awesome. It handled about 80% of my spring break drive from Central to West Texas, 900 miles of mixed highway and country roads, and then county roads when we got closer to parks and trails. I also love using it when I have to travel for work - it's clutch during rush hour / stop and go traffic.

And so yes, paying for Autonomy+ gets my vote

I did the same for my 2025 R1T. I find it especially useful for long, boring highway drives, like recent one from western Mass. to western N.C. and back. I figure it will improve over time, and the monthly fees could increase with the improvements, so better to lock it in now.

Well I haven't tried it in stop and go cause I didn't trust it..... Can you elaborate on how well that works? Trying to decide if it's worth it to pay, and I admit on the open highway it's really nice

Sure thing - from my perspective, it's very solid, and I really like how Rivian's system allows for some driver input/guidance without suddenly disengaging entirely, allowing you to partner up with the vehicle.

And keep in mind, Rivian isn't doing Point-to-Point navigation yet, so this is mostly very intelligent lane keeping, speed sensing, lane changing when prompted, etc. I frequently have to drive between cities, there and back in a day, so the fatigue/cramps from that much time in the car is real. The updates they've dropped in the past six months make it such that I get on the highway, turn on autonomy and let the car handle lane and speed when going through rush hour traffic (Houston is terrible!). It relieves me from the stop and start, keeping pressure on the accelerator, etc.

The updates they dropped after autonomy day made this all possible - a year ago, this only worked on a very small set of pre-mapped roads.

Does it use regen or blended breaks in traffic? I'm assuming blended because regen isn't always reliable with stop/go.

What do you mean? Launch edition R2 isn’t out and autonomy+ wasn’t a thing when the launch edition R1 came out.

What about it sucks? I have used it all the time and it has only gotten better after each release. I am not really there with turn by turn 'FSD' but for the highway and putzing around town it is fantastic.

Have used it a ton, the lane changes are absolutely terrible, it struggles with the simplest task. My 2016 Model S handles lane changes flawlessly on the other hand…in the current version it’s a $0 feature, I will miss it slightly on unimproved roads but until it can match or exceed 2016 Tesla Tech it’s a very simple choice.

I've had some real problems with mine, but IDk if it's because of my electrical issue.

i paid $1500 for Comma 4 + Lukas longitudunal upgrade + janka slide mount with cable combiner = Hands free driving on virtually all roads as long as there are lines - and some roads without lines and improved adaptive cruise // One aspect of Sunnypilot version of the software i hand not understood was MADS mode - this is fantastic in town - Comma 4 steers vehicle hand free but i control the throttle - game changer for stip and go traffic. im quite impressed with the result - will not be upgrading Gen 1 R1s for quite some time ( hoping for a Gen 3 R1s some time before the end of the decade)
