I think most of the criticism here is valid. People are expecting to take delivery as early as June and according to this test drives won't be happening well into May.

I agree that they'd be better served simply putting an R2 in every show room and I can't imagine that they would be production constrained to the point where that isn't possible. Being forced into viewing an R2 with hundreds or even thousands of other people in a constrained schedule is pretty lame this close to production.
Agree - the fundamental issue is their interpretation of the promised delivery start date. What I want to see from Rivian is when they'll start shipping to fulfill the reservations that were made. I understand that the first production units will go to employees - that makes sense as things are finalized on the production line.

Another thing that is likely to frustrate me: They'll likely give R2's to influencers before they start selling them to us reservation holders. Let the influencers wait until demand slows down a bit. If they're only producing 26,000 in 2026, I have a hard time believing that they won't all be sold to fulfill existing reservations. Heck - there are probably 26,000 R1 owners who will be buying an R2 and we're supposedly higher on the list.

No one is forcing anyone into viewing the R2 in a crowded space, and certainly not forcing anyone to take delivery of a vehicle prior to test drives. If test driving the vehicle ahead of purchase is important (understandably), then be patient and wait.

Our R1 purchase resulted from three test drives, two owners conversations and a couple visits to Rivian Spaces. Cannot emphasize enough, the physical experience of a vehicle purchase.

I’m in for the Denver block party as long as I’m not out traveling on business.

I think everybody's experiences with Rivian vary wildly. My wife's brother was a marketing director for Rivian so we ordered our R1S early, sight unseen. We did test drive one in Brooklyn, but I honestly don't think it would have made a difference if we hadn't - we were going to get one. I'm the same way with the R2: We need another vehicle this year and this is what I want. If I'm in the early reservations it's possible that the first time we see an R2 in person will be when we pick ours up.

Yes...I drank the Kool-Aid.

Thanks for posting - I hadn't seen that in any of the many Rivian emails I get. I can't wait to see an R2 in person, but it doesn't look like it will be in this wave. I'm sending a cousin to the Long Island event as my eyes, but it won't be the same as seeing it myself.

I'm really hoping that they ship an R2 to each Rivian Space early (KOP Please if you read this Rivian) so that we don't have to wait for a tour to see one. It seems to me that doing so would provide better exposure to the R2 line than selling them to employees beginning in June.
Sad to see no Rivian love extended to the sixth (or possibly fifth) largest metro area the country, and despite the region's hosting of many of the World Cup and Semiquincentennial events in 2026.

I don't think this event will be for test drives and I don't think they will happen in May...or June for that matter.

Based on the website, they are expecting test drives to start in the summer. Based on how Rivian uses seasons, I'd imagine we won't be able to test drive the R2 until September 20th at midnight.

While good on the company for trying to keep the R2 timeline to 2026, some cracks are starting to appear in the armor of promises and is starting to raise some questions.

All that to say, I am glad they are hosting some events. I'll be going to the Atlanta one because I would love to see one in person before I make the purchase. I don't think the block party is a bad idea and probably the best they can offer given their current constraints.

It explicitly is not for test drives, hence my assertion that test drives won't be happening well into May based on the tour dates.

If they are going to start deliveries in June, that's very disappointing.

@tobyringle that type of behavior was acceptable for a new manufacturer with their first ever vehicle that was always supposed to be a small market thing, but it's much less so now with a product that is supposed to be mass market. Even so, I took delivery of an R1T in July 2022 and had 2 separate opportunities to test drive one prior.

There's actually four, if you consider Fife to be part of the Seattle metro area.
I do, but I've never seen that service center pop when making appointments; only Bothell, Bellevue, and Seattle...

While I don't think the tour is a bad idea, I do think it would be much better to get at least one R2 to each of the Spaces as soon as possible.

I'm heading to SoCal near the end of May and was hoping that one of the Spaces down there would have an R2 to at least look at in person at that time. Sounds like that's not happening.

Exactly. I'd much rather have one color at each space that people can interact with on their own time instead of 2 days with hundreds or thousands of other people with every color in one place at a time.

I was sold on the R1 from watching "The Long Way Up" way before I actually got to test drive one. lol

The only reason I really wanted a test drive before driving was to test fit it in my garage, which they let us do when they came to our house for the test drive. That was amazing to be able to do. I don't need to do that with the R2 obviously since it's smaller...

So I don't really need a test drive, but I'd take one of course if I had the opportunity.
