Agree - the fundamental issue is their interpretation of the promised delivery start date. What I want to see from Rivian is when they'll start shipping to fulfill the reservations that were made. I understand that the first production units will go to employees - that makes sense as things are finalized on the production line.I think most of the criticism here is valid. People are expecting to take delivery as early as June and according to this test drives won't be happening well into May.
I agree that they'd be better served simply putting an R2 in every show room and I can't imagine that they would be production constrained to the point where that isn't possible. Being forced into viewing an R2 with hundreds or even thousands of other people in a constrained schedule is pretty lame this close to production.
Another thing that is likely to frustrate me: They'll likely give R2's to influencers before they start selling them to us reservation holders. Let the influencers wait until demand slows down a bit. If they're only producing 26,000 in 2026, I have a hard time believing that they won't all be sold to fulfill existing reservations. Heck - there are probably 26,000 R1 owners who will be buying an R2 and we're supposedly higher on the list.
