I had very weird issues with my R1T - I was getting random alerts that the gear tunnels were open and the tailgate was open. It told me the headlights were off and not operable (even though they were on). When I’d exit the vehicle the rear light bar, left tail light, and front right headlight would stay on indefinitely. Proximity locking wasn’t working. It told me the suspension wasn’t working, but it was. The car was otherwise working normally.

They had the truck for 3 weeks and couldn’t find an issue with it. Chalked it up to a software “glitch”.

I pick it up and they said they gave it a “courtesy wash”, and I’m driving home and hit 60mph and the steering wheel starts shaking uncontrollably. Like borderline unsafe to drive it was shaking so bad. I stopped at my local Mavis (who I have had great luck with) for them to check out the tires. They were all out of balance. Idk anything about tires, but basically they told me that when balancing tires you’re talking weight of GRAMS, like it might be 4 grams of weight to balance across the tires. The tire shop told me there was HALF A POUND of a “sandy/mud type substrate” caked on the inside of the wheels throwing off the balance. They cleared it up and truck drives perfect now. Not sure where it could have come from because the weather was pretty nice before I went out to Rivian and I had no issues at all. There’s no “sandy” like substrate where I love (1.5 hours from rivian). They put 80 miles on it, which I get because they were trying to get the errors to pop back up.

also not the first balancing issue I had with this SC. When I got these tires new last summer they installed them and they were so off balance I could barely drive home. Went to Mavis, they fixed it and told me the balancing was not even close to right. Very weird.

Oh well, few hundred miles later and my truck is perfect again and I still love it! Just a very odd situation all around.

I think SC swapped my new 21" tries to an old set 2 years ago.

if they were off-roading I would imagine dirt would be equally distributed. That sounds more like they had too many vehicles and had yours sitting off on a dirt lot, maybe wet mud and it sat in the inner wheels and dried up.

Just my guess though

Take a picture of your receipt from Mavis. Open up your Rivian app and scroll down to "share feedback". Tell them what happened and attached the receipt if it will let you. If your service ticket is still open, you can do it there too.

I actually had this happen with a truck I purchased years ago. Whole bottom was covered in mud from sitting in the lot. So it's certainly possible. 🤷

@OP - anything on Drivecam?

And if the lot had a flash flood... dirt could accumulate in the wheels. If vehicle was put in service mode, there wouldn't be footage. And I think they put them in service mode as soon as they take in the vehicle; not necessarily when they actually start work. Airtag is a good idea.

I had very weird issues with my R1T...
I just remembered that after every appointment is complete, I get multiple emails asking me to provide feedback on the service received. Check your inbox. That's another opportunity to let them know what happened. But I wouldn't accuse them of anything, since suspicion isn't proof.

Another reason to have an AirTag installed in the truck.
or use the ABRP - which still (as of three months ago) records location and telemetry when in service mode - which found my truck at >100mph at times during a test drive.

I wonder if Chad can confirm if @Rivian Roamer pulls data during Service Mode?

ElectraFi does not. I'd be surprised if any telemetrics service can collect data while in service. I think they disable the API. How did ABRP work?

So many similarly-formatted Rivian horror stories popping up right when a lot of people are considering switching to an EV and Rivian is coming out with a new vehicle that will challenge existing EV manufacturers for market share.

I assume not via the same graphql api used by the app the everyone else has tagged onto (remember they are a Rivian subsidiary) - Rivian roamer has been trying to get the same access as well afaik.

This is correct. Though some channels now stay live while under service. 👀

Rivian Roamer logs charging while in service.

You're driving a $100k 6500lb air tag... Just look at the app. Even during service, it shows location.

The cameras and location may be disabled during "service". I always install an auxiliary Thinkware camera in my vehicles. It helped me get a full buyback on my Ford Mach E after a botched warranty repair.
