Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Next to my Rivian Blue R1T in Edwards CO.

The Catalina Cove is darker than I thought. The R2 is bigger than I imagined

Rivian owned test vehicle. VIN 23. Employee out driving it to track up some miles.

I don‘t like how dark Catalina Cove looks next to Rivian Blue. It’s like all of the R2 colors were mixed with black!

The more I see the Catalina Cove, the less I like it. With the launch and forest green in the mix, I wish they just did Rivian Blue or Red Canyon as the other options. I'm sure Borealis R2 is left over paint from the R1 limited edition, but biased aside, I think the R2 would be quite the looker in red canyon and just wish they did that instead.

As of now though, given current options, I'm leaning forest green again when the configurator is up.
Catalina Cove reminds me of sewer creek mud color. Rivian Blue is light years better. Agree Canyon Red should have been included.

Just seen the CCove R2 at the Trader Joe's parking lot in South OC with an Illinois plate. The couple with a dog came out of the store right after us and headed directly to the R2 as we were looking at it.

The man, I assume works for Rivian, said he just drove out from the factory. He was kind enough to show us the interior, frunk and how the rear window rolls down (touch sensor on the hatch glass frame). Rivian did a nice job embedding the rear wiper into the base of the hatch were the glass rolls down. Also noticed the better aero designed side rear view mirrors.

He and his wife (I assume) were very nice and we were grateful for them showing us the R2. Overall, it really feels like a photographically scaled down R1S. This is our first encounter with the R2. Felt it was a much more practical size than R1S.

Sorry, not pictures. Didn't want to ruin the vibe of our conversation by pulling out the phone for images.

What was your assessment of the color? Does it look more darker blue like recent images? In the Venice YT videos the color really looked more green and bright.

The color is close to what I'd call Postal Blue. If you think of what a postman used to wear for their uniform, it was almost slate blue with a hint of green mixed in it.

Much more subtle tone than the Rivian Blue. Think of the original launch green kind of intensity, only in slate blue hue.

Thanks, good to know. Launch green looks to be a fairly flat color and earlier videos had shown CC to be brighter but these recent images have given me pause.
Only way is to see them (hopefully in June) for myself. I had hoped there would be several bright colors (if one classes white as such).

I was disappointed in the Catalina Cove. Very dark and muddy even in the sun.

We saw another R2 today on the backroads of Moab. Same deal as the first one, Rivian owned test vehicle being driven back to California by technicians. This one was white. We were thinking of getting a Catalina Cove but now after seeing that color in person it’s out, too dark and bland. The white is pretty sharp and sporty.

Sounds like many of you most vocal on here are leaning toward super vibrant colors, which I totally respect.
Personally, I’ve always felt that vibrant colors look better balanced on the R1T than the R1S. R1T in Rivian Blue, chef’s kiss. R1S in Rivian Blue? Meh.
That’s why I prefer the look of Catalina Cove, but to each their own.

I agree with you that’s is personal preference and colors can look quite different on the different sized and shaped vehicles.
Red Canyon and Rivian Blue are not super bright or saturated colors. I wished one of them had been chosen since every other color (except white and silver) are flat colors (launch green) or very dark (Forest Green, Midnight, Borealis, Half Moon Gray).
Video of Catalina Cove did look brighter so I am looking forward to seeing it in person and whether the videos were accurate or is it more Storm Blue when overcast.

Some videos did make Catalina Cove look bright. I was disappointed to see it in person that it was so dark. Almost black. Here is another video when the same vehicle passed us up later in the day.

Shady side of car always look darker.. or angle of incidence makes medium colors look darker.

It's funny, the more I see of CC, the more I like it. It's not bright, but I think it really flatters the R2's form and has a mature vibe, but still feels different than all the white / gray / black cars out there.

I love Rivian Blue, but I think it would feel like "a lot" on this car. Compass Yellow on the other hand would pop for days on this puppy!

Anyway, looking forward to seeing it person in a few weeks out on Long Island, along with the other colors. I'm sure there's one that I'll love in person!
