R2 vs Ioniq 5, Model 3, ID.4 -- comparison photos

I think they are just stopping production in the US, but it will still be available for sale here... Just imported from the factory in Europe.

Although production is halting, VW says the ID4 will continue to remain on sale for U.S. buyers who want one until the inventory of 2026 models runs out. In Europe, the automaker will continue to sell the ID4, but it’s presently undergoing a facelift and is expected to be renamed “ID Tiguan.”

The name change is part of Volkswagen’s new EV branding strategy introduced in late 2025 and already executed with its new ID Polo. The goal is to get buyers to better connect with all-electric models by adopting iconic and established names. So far, VW hasn’t stated if this idea will come to the U.S., as well.

Thanks for these! Gives me a better idea of R2 sizing. I still need to see it in person but based on all these photos/videos, it's bigger than I thought it would be.

My garage currently has R1S, Ioniq 5, and Model 3. We're considering replacing my wife's I5 with an R2. I found the photos useful.

It’s interesting, with all the stereotypical engineering prowess of the Germans, that they’ve not figured out EV’s, at least in terms of user interface. But until America finally catches up with the rest of the world. EV’s face a steep hill here.

To pile on...I sidled up to a couple different R2s yesterday in with my Model 3. I'm personally partial to the glacier white.

The Ioniq 5 looks like one of those cars where the designers took bits and pieces from just about every SUV on the market and bolted them together into one car. It has no true identity. It is a melting pot of design. Having the R2 right next to it doesn't do it any favors.
