Hi all, I couldn't find this exact combination of scenarios with a search and wanted to double check with everyone.

I've seen some new NACS adapters popping up at RAN chargers. Does the Tesla manufactured, Rivian supplied NACS->CCS1 adapter work on RANs too? I gave a '24 Gen1 R1S.

Thanks all.

It does!

There's nothing fancy in the adapters other than some temperature-sensing resistors (I think?) to stop charging of the temps go too high before the vehicle sees that happen.

Otherwise, it's just some wiring that routes the proper pins to the right place.

Thanks for the replies. Now I won't worry about parking at the wrong terminal =)

When pulling up to a RAN site, I always look for the CCS stands (for my Gen1). To me, it eliminates a possible failure point. I know others that treat the adapter sort of like a condom and use it for protection.

As Austin Powers said, "only sailors use condoms, baby!"

The adapter works. So does the one from A2Z. And most RAN locations have both CCS1 and NACS plugged dispensers. So you don't necessarily need an adapter to charge at RAN, only if the right ones are already taken by someone else. Looking up the RAN location in your Rivian mobile app, or rivianroamer.com, you'll see how many are NACS or CCS1.

Use a proven, high quality adapter, your odds of catastrophic failure is probably lower than your odds of winning $1 with lottery scratch-its. The good ones have thermal shutoff built-in. The cheap ones (like the one EV Base is advertising for $3), god knows what's in them. This is why you don't buy random cheap adapters. Just like you wouldn't hire a random unlicensed and unbonded electrician to wire your house.

It's for any J3400-compatible "NACS" DC charging station. Tesla Supercharger, RAN, EVgo, Mercedes, Ionna, etc.

Although watch out for EVgo, some don't have a proper J3400-compatible "NACS" plug, they have a CHAdeMO-chained "old Tesla-only" plug.

By all means give it a test before you are stuck on a road trip.
Should work, supposed to work, designed to work and actually working is very different.

I did the test first weekend. All is good.

There was CCS available so I didn't get to test this interaction last week. Thanks everyone for confirming though.

I just saw this thread. I did a road trip last weekend and found myself at a RAN station at one point and used a NACS stall with the NACS to CCS adapter... Worked fine.

I have not yet been to a RAN with NACS plugs. Are the stalls marked so you can tell the type of plug as you pull in?

NACS plugs all have a separate sign on the sign post that state it.
