I couldn't care less what Tesla does. Many new products across multiple industries do this, I get it. My point is while amazing work by rivian for the teams for hitting this milestone. But after employees, the next run will go to influencers and media outlets and then the gates will open for real customer.
Media already have them. My neighbor is a reviewer and has had one since the Road Shows started. Influencer... what 20-100 cars if that... If you are a current owner, day 1 reservation and want an LE you will get one this summer.

These are absolutely employee vehicles. We have yet to see any R2 vehicles on the road that do not have manufacturer plates. Looks like we finally will now.

Although May the 4th would be a cool date to announce deliveries for real customer based on the Star Wars wraps we saw, I doubt that will happen. They are delivering first to employees for a reason. They need time to have them in the wild, identify issues and make any adjustments or corrections to production.

Probably will be June before real customer deliveries like they’ve planned.
With 7000 deliveries projected for Q2, my guess is that significant customer deliveries will start in July, which is only 9-10 weeks from now.

I took the end of first half 2026 target to be external customers rather than internal. That is on me and the term “customer” is open for interpretation because you can say internal customers under NDA and doing regular data logging (very useful) are not the same as you or I.
Is there any evidence that the employees that are outright buying these R2's are under any NDAs or are required to data log, etc?

Only 400 estimated in Q2. Q3 is 7000, so a June 1 configurator launch makes sense.
400 seems very low if they are now making vehicles for internal customers to be followed in late May/early June for external customers taking delivery in late June. I would expect a low thousands figure than 400 - especially given that it was reported somewhere that 1600 employees were buying vehicles.

I read they will produce 20K R2s this year. That means I might get on in late 2027. Being a late reservation holder. I guess the people who made a reservation in the first 10min two years ago may get first refusal of an LE.

It was reported that they would have to give weekly updates - one of the advantages of having employees drive and test the vehicles before external customers in June. The timeline seems tight if they are just getting them now, to find issues, report them, get the issue investigated and fixed and that incorporated into manufacture for external customers within the next 8 weeks.

They should be more clear, these are INTERNAL Customer deliveries, not true customer deliveries. Still huge milestone and good for them for hitting the timeline they promised wall street
Just be glad they are not Ford, their customer is the dealership and that is how Ford does the sales numbers. Most US car companies operate this way. It is refreshing to see Electric Car companies consider customers as the actual drivers of the car/truck.

Something tells me Rivian is fully planning to underpromise and overdeliver on deliveries or being very conservative to start. I appreciate it, the feeling is that they want to get things right before going full throttle.

Good to know but the 400 estimate which means one per hour being made holds through to end of June. I think we also expect production to increase week to week. It is a hell of a jump from 400 this quarter (still over 70% of the quarter left) you going to 7000 just one quarter later.

Isn't most of the data logging "automatic" with a Rivian? In addition to the on-board up-load tech telling pretty much everything you do, employees that want an issue fixed will have the repair issue logged as a part of that process.

*edit - No idea with regard to NDAs, but during the R1 launch, nothing was reported by an employee. At least not anything that was un-covered to be so.
