Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Dang call me an idiot but I just realized I call haul 2x4’s bc the rear window rolls down. That’s awesome. I knew the window rolled down but didn’t think about the hauling possibilities.
They showed a surfboard being hauled, but in actuality they could push it all the way in with the way the rear seats fold down. Just put a towel on your center console, so it doesn’t get banged up. I’ll be using that on trips to IKEA.

I will say the cargo area where you have the bumps of the wheel wells seem to have that type of plastic that can easily scratch. I'm not sure of this but that is what I thought in the moment I was there. I'm personally picky on that type of plastic. I know its the cargo area and it's supposed to get beat up...but that's just my personal quirk. I only saw this plastic in that cargo area of the car. So I'll probably need to find a way to cover those spots if I get the car. I didn't notice that plastic in the main cabin. Although we only had two minutes there. But while I was in the main cabin everything felt as premium as it could be.
They should have covered that in carpet. It would have been the cheapest solution. I’m sure a third-party will come up with something that fits perfectly. In the meantime maybe felt would work?

Yes, this 40/20/40 (or whatever it is) rear seat breakdown is a great feature. Forget surfboards, I'm dreaming on all the 2x4s I can stuff in there. This design seems much more common in European cars where it's often called a ski hatch, then the same cars come to the US and they take it away, e.g., ID4. 😥

I wonder why? It doesn’t seem like it would be a safety issue, unless you slam on the brakes and the 2x4s smash the touchscreen. 😜

Based on the R2’s dimensions I would think it could haul quite a few 2x4s if they were 8’ in length and the middle section was down to hold them in place. Then you wouldn’t have to use the drop glass at all.

With the drop glass down you could haul any length, but the angle might press it up against the rear console or the rear of the front seats. This is coming from someone that hauled all kinds of stuff in my Honda Fit.

Of course you could wait for the R2 variants that RJ hinted about, but then you’d miss out on all of the fun. I’d say an R2T that’s around the size of a Ford Maverick is definitely in the works. I just hope all of these variants don’t push the R3 back.

Sometimes I think they shouldn’t have revealed the R3 so early. Then they could have exhausted all of the R2 variants first (R2T, R2 three-row, etc.), which would have been easier from a manufacturing standpoint. The R3 does share the same skateboard chassis though, so maybe it isn’t a big deal. We’ll see once the Georgia plant has been finished in 2028?

I've never been inside a Honda CR-V so I couldn't comment on the comparison to that.
I might be slightly off on the comparison due to the vertical dimensions of the CR-V rear cargo area being taller than the R2. CR-V may have more vertical cargo area as R2 slopes down and rounds over at the very back. R2 is still very good and usable due to its' box shape.

A rear window that opens/closes is a fanastic feature. Not only does it greatly open up on the size of the things you can carry - but you can really load up the rear area with the hatch closed, window down, avoid the open-hatch-shit-falls-out move :D

I miss it from our T4R, but also our X5 that had a split tailgate (like a 25/75). That saved so many jars of pickles ...

I saw one on the way to Vegas about a week ago. Initially when I pulled in to charge I was confused to why this Rivian was parked the wrong way to charge. Upon closer inspection it was the R2! Dealer plates from Illinois so not a production model, per se.

I’d say the R2 by itself doesn’t appear small at all, but when you park the R1S next to it, that’s where you can tell the size differences.

I've seen a fair bit of these posts lately. You think they're doing final cross country stress tests?

Yeah that is my guess, just some final testing/validation. Could be more software than hardware testing since R2 will have that new UI.

What a beauty. I talked a lot of crap about the Half Moon Gray but it is stunning in person. Digging the 21s as well. Gives it a nice stance.

Agreed! Half Moon Gray is very sparkly in the sun! And the 21's look great, but I'll likely opt for the 20s due to aftermarket tire offering.

There will be more 21" options coming, R2 is going to be a high volume vehicle so no doubt other Tire companies are going to go after that market. And yes, Half Moon Gray does look great! I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do, especially pics like these in the Sun.

Oooooo, that Half Moon Grey looks like the Indium Grey Metallic on my Golf R, which I love.
