So far there are no postings of someone actually able to test driver, order, or take delivery, at least that I know of on forum. When that happens, that will be the moment I will believe the R2 is available.

Up to this point, it has been somewhat nothing but teasing with the March event (base configuration and price), employees delivery and spottings, block party (you can touch for 2 minutes), finally configurations options with some misleading email message. I will be so happy when this drawn-out release ends. :)

I don't remember such drama when I was waiting for the first rollout of Acura RDX, Honda S2000, or redesign of Odyssey being this painful.

I don't get why no forest green...they are sharing the paint shop with R1 no? Forest green is an R1 color...
Availability of paint at the factory in Normal may not be the issue. I suspect that some body-color parts -- like exterior mirror covers and exterior door handles -- are painted by suppliers. If the supplier (which could be somewhere in Asia) is slow to provide forest green R2 mirror covers, then forest green R2 vehicles won't be built until the parts arrive.

Yep. And the Red too.
Hoping to see Red Canyon or some other red for MY27, although might still default to white. Need to see it live, etc.

Either you think older non-millennials are the root of your problems or that non-millennials prefer gray.

Interesting perspective I suppose....
There is litterally something called millennial gray decor because so many things are gray in our generation and called a generational trend.

I think it is really sad our society creates conflicts between the generations. IMO the change in car color preference in not generational. It is universal.

In fact, what is the most popular color? White. It has always been. Black is a pretty close second. Derivations on those is a reasonable outcome, mixing black and white to different interesting shades. Also paint technology has evolved to create the interesting colors we have available today.

My tuck is a prime example. I am not a blue car/truck person. But I love the color of my truck. And this is from someone who has purposely purchased multiple white vehicles for many, many years.

White used to be my favorite vehicle color. Until Rivian created Storm Blue. I love this color. And I am NOT a millennial. Thank God.

Dude, not trying to cause conflict. Just really tired of gray and mentioning how they keep saying gray is a best seller when often its just the free or default color.

My favorite colors without seeing them in person is the Esker Silver, Catalina Cove, Half Moon Gray, or Launch Green. I really like the launch green, but the Catalina Cove is growing on me.

The real issue at the moment is I'm having trouble paying $$$ for a color change without knowing there is some underlying reason for paying more.

I wonder what the financing options will be. Rivian does not offer leasing in New Hampshire. I'm planning on putting $25k-$30k down and financing the rest (850 credit score).

Sorry, I didn't mean my response to sound like it did.

My wife is with you. Her Jeep is a very dark gray. I think it looks great with the black wheels and other black accent parts on the truck. She thinks it looks like pavement and thinks it is dangerous because it blends in with the road.

So we wrapped it with a dark red vinyl. It looks great but I still really liked the color it used to be.

Rivian R1T R1S Confirmed: R2 reservation holders will be invited to configure orders in June 2026-05-18_07-56-18

Probably better off lining up your own financing.

I have no idea why Rivian picked grey as the one included with the order, but I'm surprised it wasn't white (I think white was included on my 22 R1T). One third of all passenger vehicles are white & if you add black then you have of all vehicles. At least that is the way it used to be. My employer is the largest pickup truck buyer in the country (we have a business leasing program) & Leroy has those little cost/residual value issues down to the penny.

It's fun doing the configurator even though I know it's just for kicks and giggles ATM.

And I test drove an R1S a while ago so I pretty much know what I'm getting into with an R2. Another test drive isn't a big deal. Would be nice especially if I know my reservation won't get called up for months.

For me...
Launch Green but flexible if they tell me I can get silver or grey faster
21" all terrain wheels (not an off-roader but I will tow)
Black Crater interior though I'm a little nervous about how hot that will get. just can't see that green and the white interior working
spare tire
all weather mats
cargo crossbars

And hopefully enough reservation holders say they want to wait for whatever reason so I can finally say goodbye to Blue Steel which has been in the shop since Thursday with no end in sight. The car sometimes has stopped operating due to a voltage cable error they cannot find. Yay.

What makes you say that? I'm waiting for forest green and the coastal cloud interior myself. Sick of having black seats that are so hot in the summer, also just want something different. I'd love a tan or brown interior to pair with the exterior green, but those interior colors barely exist anymore in any brand these days.

The default/free color option isn't grey, it's silver.

There is always a practical reason, just have to ask the right question. It is not a generational thing. Other than I am old enough to remember silver cars looking like crap after 7-10 years.

The rise of silver cars is largely due to the introduction of durable clear coats and ultra-fine metallic flakes in the 1980s and 1990s. These technologies allowed automakers to create bright, reflective silver finishes that wouldn't peel, oxidize, or look dull over time, turning the color into a symbol of modern technology and luxury

Cost Savings: Silver essentially derives its "color" from reflective aluminum flakes rather than expensive pigments, making it highly efficient for manufacturers to produce at a lower inventory risk.
Practicality: Silver hides dirt, dust, water spots, and minor scratches much better than solid colors like black or dark red.
APPLE: By the 1990s and 2000s, as personal electronics and computers (like the brushed aluminum look of Apple devices) flooded the market, silver became permanently associated with innovation, speed, and sleek modern design
