If you weren't so far north, I could order you the OG wiring harness and adapter they're using for us oldies. Just show up with it and go "oh look, I found a harness! Now where's my f-ing powered tonneau install?"
I'm skeptical. I feel like even if I showed up either with the harness in hand, or installed and ready to go, they'd still deny the install because their system says there's no path to install.

Its so dumb that you can order the part that is missing, that entire panel has to come off anyways and its literally just clipping in the harness. And Rivian won't just do it. Can't even buy the cover myself and have a 3rd party install it because it needs the software component.

Quoting myself .. Got it installed today and it's the new one. Holy crap it's so much quieter and just looks/feels higher quality.
I am getting this done on Friday. Did they install the smaller slat version on yours? Anymore feedback now that youve had it for a monthish?
thank you

I'm pretty sure that Rivian doesn't even have inventory of anything but the new version of the tonneau. If someone with the old one has something that breaks on it, they get a new one (if under warranty).

It's likely not about technical difficulty, more of a business/profitability decision. The missing harness either has to be procured/produced or siphoned from new vehicle production (IF, gen 2 is even using the same exact harness... remember, they reduced wiring in gen 2 to improve production cost and bottom line of entire company). If it could be siphoned from new vehicle production, flip the script and ask yourself: IF you were responsible for financial performance of the entire company, would you decide to sell more whole cars or tonneau covers? There's no comparison between profitability of one vs the other. It's a nice-to-have item, but it's still moving parts and would still be a future pain point when it does malfunction. Just not as soon as the original. Get a manual cover and move on. Or, find the harness from a salvaged donor vehicle and retrofit it yourself.

Except I'm not responsible for the financial performance for the entire company, I'm an R1T owner who was assured that I could get a tonneau cover at a later date. Hell, mine was literally at the service center about to get v1.5 installed until the techs there said to wait for the version that was introduced on Dune (the one out today). Now I'm being stopped by a piece of wire that Rivian was going to previously install with the v1.5 cover. That's incredibly frustrating. I should have gotten the v1.5 cover, thrown a bunch of sand on it and had it replaced for breaking with the new cover. I would gladly purchase the harness separately, and apparently that's an option so any concerns about availability are moot. I just can't get Rivian to sell me the cover install.

So keep complaining? And what result has that produced for you thus far? Futile. Customers and OEMs each have their own priorities. And sometimes those priorities don't align. That's a fact of life. If you can't help yourself, no one can.

Yea, I'm going to keep providing feedback to Rivian, what else am I supposed to do.
Who's asking for your opinion anyways?
You put yourself and your thoughts on the internet, you're going to get feedback like you are giving to Rivian. Another fact of life. Deal with it.
