In theory, you can and will save money just subscribing. You may not care for what A+ has to offer now. There may be months when you won’t need A+ for one reason on another. You just really enjoy driving yourself. Quite a few reasons not to purchase A+.

However, what happens if there are new features and capabilities that are only behind the paywall? Will there be an A+ subscription increase associated with new features and how soon would an increase come?

If the subscription increases in price, the "prepaid" pays off faster, though. If in six months they double the price, then if you had already paid the $2500, suddenly it will pay off in only two years. (Assuming you actually use the capabilities enough to justify the cost. My wife doesn't even use basic cruise control, so the fact that her Model S has FSD is completely lost on her. I wouldn't have paid any extra for a vehicle with FSD, we just happened to find one that the selling used car dealer didn't know had it to charge extra for it.)

It is barely functional at this point....I would just do the monthly when it is actually usable which probably wont be for 2 years plus.

I paid for A+ only a few days of not having it. It’s all worth it to me. Bonus: not having to agonize over and think about it is already worth it for me. :)

I did not subscribe on my wife's gen 2 and she did not even notice for the first two weeks. Then she asked why it was not changing lanes by itself (the only thing she lost). So I told her we can add it back for $50 a month anytime. She then offered an expletive followed by the word "no."

When they deliver more usefulness we will reconsider. We bought Tesla FSD so not opposed to paying for this capability and I appreciate that Rivian is sticking to the $2,500 lifetime concept, but for now the value is not there.
