I’m a little surprised - no R2 flips yet?

It may not make sense but just casually watching the silly prices people pay for mediocre vehicles on BringATrailer and Cars&Bids means there's always a chance. You can just predict the insanity of auction site buyers. 🤣

We’ve been offered a few delivered R2’s and hope to have some options available soon!

Best of course is to still wait for your order to avoid the Pre-Owned market premium.

Surprisingly, even with how incredible R2 is, we have seen a big uptick in Pre-Owned R1 sales since launch of the R2 earlier this month.

I just don’t see a flipping market for this early version of the R2. The major flaw is that it uses older Gen 2 tech without LiDAR. Also, unless there is a way to order it with an MSO, I’m not seeing how you can get this vehicle untitled so you can sell it to the next person as a brand-new vehicle.
There is absolutely a market. Especially at first. Won’t be like R1 as there’a only so much someone will pay before just getting into an R1, however there will be a good 6 month period of a premium on these in the used market, maybe a bit longer.

Gotta remember that there are other OEM’s drooling about getting their hands on a production R2 to dissect it.

Fun fact: we sold one of the very first Austin built Model Y’s to another OEM back when they were impossible to get during the covid era. Their plan was strictly to tear it down and study.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of a markup did the OEM pay? I doubt they're a very price conscious buyer. In the near-term, what do you see as the R2 price ceiling before someone just buys an R1 instead?

Would have to look back, but if I recall, it was around $15,000 over MSRP. Keep in mind, this was COVID era when Model Y's were up to a 9 month wait.

We're expecting $5,000 - $10,000 over to be the going rate on the first batch of R2's that hit the market.

Just flipped my R2 preorder. No VIN yet. All cash deal. Hope to have a delivery date soon tho.
More details please.

Was it sold to someone in your network or did you advertise it? How much over MSRP did you get? Will you have to register it first in your name, pay taxes and so forth and then sign the title over to new buyer?

Not gonna go into too much detail but all cash deal. I have to take delivery then I’m signing it over. They’re effectively paying tax twice. $10k markup

I got my invite a few days ago. Have configured the R2 I’d buy too many times to count, but have decided, I think, to stick with my R1’s (T/S).

If anyone wants a reservation (not entirely sure how a “flip” would work), DM’s are open.
