As others have said thanks for the great write up! Please keep us informed as to what's going on with the R2, both positive and negative. Posts like this from owners are really what we all need.

I'm primarily interested in the quality control issues, if any. So far, there seems to be a consensus that the QC is not great. That is a great concern to so many who are geographically distant to the service center.

That is not happening anytime soon. It took Tesla itself 10 years. If you're not satisfied with Lane Keep and Adaptive Cruise (and hopefully it stays on when you want to do an overtake), you shouldn't really consider the R2.
Pre v13 FSD was trash on anything but the highway. City driving was hit or miss, with it often being a miss. It would very often hesitate and make a lot dangerous mistakes.

With the move away from hard coded programming to end to end neural networking, that's when FSD moved from being okay on highways to totally usable in day to day life. This wasn't the cumulation of 10 years of work, it was a paradigm shift.

Because of this, I don't see this sort of autonomy being unattainable by other manufacturers who are willing to spend the money and time to develope and fine tune this time. There are other players in the autonomy game doing the same thing, Waymo for example as well as several other Chinese companies.

V13 was also end to end neural net, but with much lower resolution camera data and a lot less processing power. It was pre-v12 that was deterministic hard coded

The roofing membrane cut to be a protector seems great. It makes me want to look into how to do something similar.

This is an amazing write up.

Your R1T is the same colors as ours. We have a Gen1 Quad.
We test drove the Performance edition which I believe is a quad motor and the "giddy up and go" was pretty impressive.....not 2.9 seconds to 60 impressive os our Quad, but very good.

We are definately getting the R2 and trading our R1T.......we have good reasons as to why......#1.....wife is 5' 1" and has a hard time getting groceries out of the truck bed and it rides really high for her.....I don't care one way or another....because I am 6' 2".

We got R1T thinking we would utilize the truck bed more and that hasn't been the case. Also, we have the manual tonneau cover and it is a pain to have to remove each slat to utilize the whole bed. We don't want to invest the $3,000+ to get an electric one.

We have a Rav4 Prime plugin that we love as well and that is what we tow with if need be.

Thanks again for the great write up!
The performance model is dual motor.

I haven’t heard many WC issues, seems better than R1 (as expected). Time will tell.

I was able to get a next business day, early morning appointment for my R2 issue that's mostly inconsequential. Something weird going on with the driver's seat and a few other minor concerns.

But my R1T left on a flatbed today, lol.

Seats are similar to R1 but not quite as comfortable. I was squirming a bit on our cabin trip this morning
Thanks so much for your very helpful review! After a few more days of driving, are you still experiencing the front seat issue you described or were you able to make some seat position adjustments and resolve it?

It took Tesla itself 10 years
I’ve driven Tesla FSD twice in the past year and my experience was that FSD is still not “point to point” because it struggles to exit parking garages or find parking at the set destination.

It’s a hard problem, and Waymo can have the same issue but overall I think it’s definitely ahead of Tesla.

I've only been doing short trips so can't really say. I've tweaked the position of the seat a lot at first but the last few drives I have not felt the need so maybe I have it dialed in......

Been hauling a bike around on a rack. I've noticed the hitch on the R2 sticks out farther than the R1 so the rack is easier to load. On the R1 its recessed enough that you can't really see it when inserting the bike mount so R2 is better in that regard.

Been using the back lift gate window a lot too. I have to say, that is a nicer feature than I anticipated.

The haptic wheels are becoming 2nd nature..

Have you noticed any discomfort with the seats? I have read a few reviews from the demo drives that the seats are not as comfortable as they would seem? Also HVAC is doing its job and not overly noisy?

@Budman any knowledge of how driving with all five windows down impacts eff/range?
No idea about range hit. I’ve just rolled all the windows down after golfing or mt biking to get some initial cooling then roll’em up. The one button feature to roll up all windows at once is another thing that is surprisingly nice. It’s the button above the windshield by the cabin light.
