Why don’t you just use the old school clicker attached to your visor? Mine are in the vehicles without Homelink in them. They only cost about $40 if you need an extra one because you have already used the remote that came with the garage door opener.
Because a new car that touts its technology should not require a clip on remote. My 2005 Infiniti has a still working homelink button on the rearview mirror. And not to mention someone could break into your car and steal your remote. Then simply follow you home to figure out where you live.
I had HomeLink in various cars up until my current vehicle. It's silly, but I hate using the cheap clicker that's attached to my visor and miss HomeLink. It just feels cheap and antiquated. Even sillier that many of us are willing to pay the VERY silly premium for HomeLink as an option, frequently $500-$1,000 these days
Follow you home to figure it out? They could just look for your registration paperwork while they're stealing your remote.
And cloning opener signals is a far more common exploit.

That's super weird. Registration should stay in the car. It's required to produce during a traffic stop, and if someone borrows your car they may be in a pickle if they can't find it.

Here in Colorado one copy of the registration does not contain your address and is intended to be left in the car. My insurance card also does not have my address on it.
it must be a Colorado thing I guess. I don’t have two versions of my registration and I’m not sure why I’d want to keep a copy in my wallet when I am not in the car.
