Switched from R1T (Gen 1 Quad) to a Ford Bronco

I have a more efficient EV for commuting. My Rivian is for going to the mountains, which is my weekend hobby. It's far more environmentally friendly than any similarly capable ICE vehicle.

+ You get the bonus of immediate full power at high elevations where most ICE fall flat. Win-Win.

I'm not saying this because I'm an EV fan, but....

Why?

Seems irresponsible to have the financial means to do better than pumping carbon into the atmosphere unnecessarily. You didn't have to announce the departure, but you did.

Obviously a very different vehicle and very different driving experience. But I'm loving the Bronco! I forgot how nice it is to have intuitive knobs and switches controlling things inside the car. 30 years of driving-related muscle memory means it just feels like home to have a "normal" windshield wiper control stock or volume knob. I did enjoy driving an EV and I'll buy another one at some point. I miss the ease of plugging in at night. Don't miss the acceleration. That became just a parlor trick after a few months and I never really used all that HP and torque. I realize this will not be a popular post on here, but thought I'd share in case anyone else is thinking of going back in time to a truck that runs on dino juice.

Snowmobiles are begging for high density batteries to be useful in the mountains.

When someone asks how much HP your sled has your answer normally begins with --- "here at the parking lot or up at the riding area?"

It's not uncommon to lose 1/4th of your power at the top.

Same with ICE. The point is, total life cycle of the product regardless of how many owners.

More to your point, perhaps we shouldn't buy so much stuff and hang on to things longer. Oh wait, that's not what feeds the consumption machine

with you on that. Keep stuff for just a little longer if you are really interested in the environment!

I feel you OP. I'm still waffling about an R2 (just got my VIN) or keeping my i4 as the commuter and grabbing a cheaper gas truck.

It's funny, I came TO the rivian from that exact setup

I sure miss the way that i4 stayed stuck to the road...

Keep stuff that gets low carbon when in use.

I've seen a few EV sleds out and about. Expensive, but definite advantages. Most of my neighbors still use propane backup generators, gas chainsaws, etc. I moved to battery home backup, electric saw, electric 2-stage snow blower. Cheaper to run, more reliable, quieter, less maintenance.

The Taiga and now Ski-Doo. Both are powerful, but the range and charge network kind of limits them to 50 mile rides. Probably good for Yellowstone guided tours or ice fishing transportation.

Definitely! I went up over Independence Pass last weekend and I made the same comment to my wife, lol

Can't imagine going back to a gas car at this point, but I do love the look of the Bronco (I grew up a Ford guy). The only thing I miss about ICE is the manual transmission, but those are mostly gone anyways.

I use the acceleration all the time for merging!

I had a gen 1 Bronco for a while a long time ago in galaxy far, far away, and was all in on the new one. Until R1S came out. I've had EVs since 2013 (along with a 1990 4Runner that I bought in 1997). I've had my R1S Tri for a year and a half and love it. Sold the trusty, beloved 4Runner shortly after getting the R1S. I do not see going back to ICE at this point, but I certainly do not fault those who do, and I'm glad we have the choice.

I think the takeaway is enjoy your Bronco, but only if you keep it more than a few years and use it to tow your ev snowmobile!
