I hate to say goodbye to this wonderful machine. I love the R1S, no complaints at all. I did extend my lease one month, which got me to some nicer weather so I can remove the running boards. I have replaced it with a CPO BMW i4, yes it is a completely different vehicle type. But I'll use this primarily for commuting (80+ miles a day), and I'll use my wife's X5 for my MTB hauling.

I decided to go ahead and make the switch because I am not sure when I'll get an R2, and didn't want to extend the lease 6 months and still not have an R2 at the end. And in the time being, I'll be saving electricity, and payment dollars. I considered a used R1, but they are just too expensive to buy as a temporary vehicle to get me to the R2. The i4 is a solid, non-Tesla, vehicle that will get me to work. I will be back as soon as I have my Launch Green R2 in my hands!

So I'll have some R1S accessories available in NJ soon, spare kit, running boards and trunk divider thing. I am so going to miss this vehicle, but the R2 will be my perfect commuter and adventure vehicle. Now to go find someone to install a hitch on the X5...

I feel your pain. Sold my R1 this month and am impatiently waiting for the R2. Have considered the i4 as something to hold me over. Rivian really needs to get these R2 to customers!

EV Sportline, 2024 Gen 1 R1S. I’ll get them in the member shop soon. Gonna try to get them off today. They have been on the car since Dec 2024. I’ll have to examine them when they come off, but no chips or rust that I’ve noticed.

My first impressions of the BMW:
  • It's a regular car first, EV second. And that's a good thing for most people.
  • The keyfob "just works." Apple phone key is a good backup, but the fob is the way to go.
  • Drivetrain is just a little less refined than Rivian. A little jerky sometimes. I think I just have to get used to the pedal.
  • I do like the way BMW programmed reverse, it's like a gas car, hover over the brake as the motors push t backwards.
  • There is no way to make one pedal diving the default, but it is literally just an extra pull of the gearshift, so a double click. Not bad. But again, regular car first. My wife could get in and drive it like a regular car and never know it was electric.
  • BMW software is very solid and mature if just a little complicated to learn. I have a head start as this is my 5th BMW.
  • Efficiency is very good. I averaged 4.2mi/kwh over my two days of my commute (40 miles each way, half highway)
But man, it is small!!! It's fun to zip around in, but it feels like a little toy. I think it will be the perfect transition to the R2, since the R2 will now feel huge!

R2 Coming on Aug 14th! Goodbye i4.

That being said, the i4 is solid. For those looking for a EV sedan, buy it! No other EV touches the experience. I'll still get my BMW itch scratched with my wife's X5, and soon I'll get my Rivian itch scratched with the R2. Now to start looking for some accessories for the R2..

It's honestly the best bang for the buck. So much fun to drive. Found myself doing a way more weaving through traffic than was safe though. It just holds to the pavement so well, even under very aggressive maneuvers. Remains planted and predictable at ridiculous speeds.

The i4 was sold to Carvana last night, man they overpay sometimes for vehicles. Just confirmed with Trenton, and I am picking up my R2 in the morning.

You didn't have your BMW long at all. Hopefully it wasn't too much of a financial hit selling it so soon after you bought it.

Congrats on your R2!

Timing is challenging for me too. I still have my R1S for another year or two until the warranty runs out, then I have to decide if I want to spring for an extended warranty or get something else in the meantime.

I'm personally waiting for the Scout. I hope it comes because on paper, it has everything I need.

The Count sold the Royal R1S last month and doesn't miss it. He now wonders if his R2 invite is delayed as he is no longer a current owner?

Didn't take a huge hit. Carvana paid me $1500 less than I paid for it 6 months ago. I was planning to have the i4 for a year, but my itchy trigger finger got the best of me when I got that email. And the ridiculous offer from Carvana couldn't be ignored.

You can ask the sales guys about your status. I gave mine up in April and was told I'd still be considered a current owner.
