Slight incline, 48 outside, climate set to 72 auto, battery temp is 72 as well. At this point I can’t keep this on the screen anymore looking at it is really depressing.

I drove 27.7 miles this morning with the heat on at 73 degrees. My truck started at 203 miles and 70% charge and took up 44 miles and 15%. Wheels are OE 20” darks and 33” Nitto Recon Grapplers.

44 miles to go 27. 🤣

I’m estimating my range has gone from 286 to 200 in cold weather lol.

Today’s trip shows that while the temps are brutal (zero here in KC), the range hits are even more brutal.

starting range: 80 percent/233 miles
Pretrip battery warming: yes
Miles driven: 66
Ending range: 32 percent / 94 miles

139 miles of range for 66 actual miles.

YIKES.

I’m beginning to think the best way to deal with this is for me to ignore cold temperature effects on electrochemistry as much as possible. I did not obsess on miles per gallon before I got my R1T, so I should not obsess over kilometers per kWh now.

This.

My Prius only got in the low 30s MPG in Winter. Not its advertised ~60 MPG. I was annoyed until I figured out it was just how things work. When your vehicle isn't propelled primarily by a system so inefficient, it spits out tons of heat "free", that's just how it is. You have to spend energy on purpose to heat, either to keep the cabin warm or to keep the systems warm. Even with the loss, it's still way more efficient than a full-ICE of equivalent size/capability.

Yes but it basically turns the vehicle into an errand runner only. Which is fine I guess.

actually, it’s not. I just calculated and would barely be able to make it to work, the airport and back on a single full 100 charge. LOL.

What was battery temp? I got 1.15 kWh with 5 degree battery in below 0 yesterday for 40 miles. Will test tomorrow with fully warmed battery. Cold as it ever gets here right now.

you are extrapolating full range from a short range test. That's not correct and it will of course leave you with a way to conservative of a range estimate. I can drive around the block right now an use 1% and then extrapolate I can only get 20 miles of range. But that's not how it works.

Evening trip to the local pub for dinner during the Bill/steelers game.

8 miles round trip. Pre-heated vehicle for 20 minutes at home before we left, and again the last 20 minutes at the pub before we came home.

Range went from 118 to 90. 28 miles lost over an 8 mile round trip. 😂

Is a 70 mile trip after preheating for 20 not enough?

You used 66 miles for 32% which would be 206 mile range. And I’d be willing to bet it would be closer to 230-250.
Im not following. I started at 233 and ended at 94 after driving 66 miles. 139 reduction. Are you saying I should ignore the gauge and keep driving because I’ll get 130 from it?

so far after three tests preheating the vehicle for ~20 each time, the range calculation have shown an approximate 47% drop.
